According to common sense, the tide rises and falls, the water in the puddles in these reefs should be seawater, and the toad can actually survive and reproduce in the seawater? The reporter then invited Dr. Sun Zhibin of the Yellow Sea Fisheries Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences to the scene to find out: through the measurement, it was learned that these water quality is very good, close to our tap water value. Originally, the water at these puddles was the mountain spring water that flowed down from the mountain and gathered here to form the habitat of the toad, and when the sea was high, it could only go to the close distance of the toad's habitat. At the same time, mosquito larvae, jie jue, are found in these freshwater puddles, which can be used as food for tadpoles to form a complete biological chain, so toads can live stably here.
On April 24, 2022, the reporter came here again and noticed that a large number of small tadpoles and toad eggs appeared in the puddles, and swam and foraged in the water in groups of tadpoles, which was very gratifying; according to the growth process of small tadpoles, they would grow two hind legs, two front legs, slowly remove their tails, and finally become small toads; according to the laws of nature, some of them were eaten by natural enemies such as birds, and some died due to environmental influences, and about 1% of tadpoles could survive and grow into adults.
