Dennis Taylor
Dennis Taylor was born on 19 January 1949 in Cowrisland, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland.
In 1972, at the age of 23, Taylor became a professional snooker player, and the following year's World Championship debut, he unfortunately regretted the first round and lost to Cliff Thorburn. At the 1975 and 1977 World Championships, Taylor stopped in the semi-finals.
Dennis Taylor, 1979 World Championships
It wasn't until 1979 that Taylor finally ushered in the first true World Championship final of his career, but lost to Terry Griffiths, who participated in the World Championships for the first time, by a gap of 16-24. This year, Taylor also achieved a good result of no. 2 in the world ranking.
In 1984, Taylor reached the semi-finals of the World Championships again, this time losing to Steve Davis, and when Taylor's performance this season seemed to be thriving, Taylor received the bad news of the sudden death of his mother, and taylor, who was almost crushed, had to withdraw from the "Jameson" international competition.
Taylor won the Black Ball Showdown
In the 1985 World Championship final, Taylor again faced the world number one Davis, who was strong and dominant in the snooker movement at the time; Taylor fell behind Davis 8-0 in the first stage, but soon Taylor pulled back two sets 7-9 and 15-17, 17-17.
In the decider, Davis led Taylor by a score of 62-44, at this time there were only brown, blue, pink and black balls left on the table, Taylor if he wanted to win, he had to score these four balls; Taylor calmly and calmly handled two difficult blue balls and pink balls in succession, pulling the score to 62-55, at this time the success or failure, the full power of this black ball; Davis missed the black ball after a side shot, and Taylor, finally put the black ball into the bag, this time, the 36-year-old Taylor finally lifted the coveted trophy! However, like other champions under the "Crucible Curse", Taylor, who returned to the World Championships the following year, failed to defend his title and was eliminated in the first round.
Taylor and Alex Higgins
Between Taylor and Hurricane Alex Higgins, there was another "showdown": in the 1990 World Cup final, when Northern Ireland was defeated by Canada, an angry Higgins threatened to kill Taylor; after that, in the Irish Masters, the two met in a narrow way, Taylor made up his mind to beat Higgins, and the 5-2 score was to announce Taylor's goal; wonderfully, after which Taylor and Higgins reached a settlement.
Good commentator partners, Davis and Taylor
The two last faced each other in the quarter-finals of the 1991 World Championships, this time with a 13-7 margin in the semifinals.
Taylor's career seems to have gone downhill in the 1990s, falling out of the ranks of the world's top sixteen players after the 1994 World Championships, and finally in 2000, Taylor announced his retirement.
Dennis Taylor, 1999
Taylor is now the BBC's guest snooker commentator, his innate sense of humor makes his commentary shine, and the "poisonous tongue" Griffith is even more interesting; as an old naughty boy, Taylor is even more anti-funny big sunglasses, with an exploding head, and his old rival Davis staged a replica of the 25th anniversary of the Battle of the Century in Crucible on April 30, 2010.
Interestingly, Taylor is also known for the glasses he wears during matches, and this somewhat comical pair of glasses has his own unique magic, and it is with it that Taylor is not prone to mistakes when aiming at the table.
