On Reading Day, there is a reading suggestion from an academician

On the occasion of World Book Day, academicians from Tianjin University shared a valuable reading advice.

Zhou Heng: 93 years old. Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, a well-known fluid mechanics expert, developed the theory of flow stability, and is a professor at the School of Mechanical Engineering of Tianjin University.

Reading perception: Reading has benefits, but this is not a "benefit" of a causal relationship, but after reading a book, the mind is more open. At different stages of life, read different books.

When Mr. Zhou was young, there was a friend at home who opened a bookstore, and he could often borrow books to read, and every time he borrowed books, he carefully wrapped the book cover, and after reading it, he returned it like a new one.

"At that time, I read a lot of old Chinese novels, especially martial arts novels. College students are still in the exploratory stage of reading. Zhou Heng said, "When I was in college, I didn't know how to read, I read everything, mainly novels, such as "The Vengeance of Monte Cristo", "Drifting", "The Legend of the Swordsman of Shushan" and so on. It's normal to read novels in college, but don't get hooked. With the increase of life experience and the changes in the general environment, Zhou Heng thinks and reads in the vast sea of books, keeping pace with the times. He has read a lot of Soviet novels and materialistic dialectics in the 1950s, Stalin's works, Soviet and domestic novels of the 60s, and Marxist-Leninist classics. In the 21st century, Zhou Heng focused on books related to education and scientific development, and read the biographies and stories of many educators such as Qian Xuesen, Qian Sanqiang, Ye Qisun, Mei Yiqi, Zhang Boling and so on.

Zhou Heng once shared his suggestions on reading with teachers and students. "Reading has benefits, but it's not a causal benefit, it's that after reading a book, the mind is more open. Reading is really important. Zhou Heng told the young students, "To read the classics, we must 'choose the right books', and it is recommended to read some classic works that have been tested in practice, reliable, and keep pace with the times." In addition, Zhou Heng said that reading should be combined with personal interests, "for example, if a person is interested in music, then read more books on music, including biographies of musicians, music genres, etc., to improve music appreciation to rational understanding."

"If you don't have a problem to do the traction, you don't know what books to read." Zhou Heng suggested that students can ask their own questions, list their own books, and then let the teachers of the school help them sort out and guide. "When I read different books at different stages, I am actually thinking about problems at different stages." Zhou Heng said.

Yao Jianquan: 83 years old. Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, a well-known expert in laser and nonlinear optics at home and abroad, has made great contributions to the development of laser technology in China, as well as new solid-state laser and tuning technology, and is a professor at the School of Fine Instrumentation of Tianjin University.

Reading inspiration: put down the mobile phone, leave the fragmented information, pick up the book, and systematically absorb knowledge.

Yao Jianquan's imagination of science began in the threshing ground. "The summer in Wuxi is very hot, the house is too stuffy at night, everyone has removed their own door panels to the threshing ground to cool off, lying on the door panels looking at the stars in the sky, my cousin and I often discuss the starry sky and the world beyond the starry sky. At that time, I was very interested in astronomy and physics, and I was also very interested in related books, and I read magazines to understand the basic concepts of the universe and the Milky Way, and maintained a strong interest. Later, when I went to college, I also worked as a correspondent for Aviation Knowledge magazine and wrote popular science articles. “

In middle school, the library in the school gave Yao Jianquan the opportunity to read a group of books. "At that time, I loved to read novels, and most of the Chinese and foreign masterpieces in the library of Suzhou Middle School read them. "Quiet Don River", "Mutton Fat Ball", "Chekov Novel Selection" and so on were all read at that time, and I also read a lot of books by famous Chinese artists, and I read the books of Lu Xun, Ding Ling, Ba Jin, and Lao She. Later, he also became interested in philosophy, reading the famous passages and interpretations of Confucius, Laozi, and Zhuangzi, and at one point trying to find out the difference between Confucianism and Taoism. ”

Yao Jianquan also introduced that the traction of interest can make reading targeted. "Suzhou Middle School encourages students to participate in extracurricular activities and interest groups to improve students' comprehensive ability. At that time, I was in the photography group, the car group. When disassembling the engine, the teacher will tell us about the circulatory system, the principle of the internal combustion engine, and the steering system, and we will consciously go to the library to find books on mechanics and aerodynamics to see and discuss together. In the photography group, we studied how to photograph the people who ran 100 meters, and how to match the depth of field and exposure. How to compose a more beautiful picture? I found relevant books and magazines to study and practice. I think that later I studied optics, which may also be the subtle influence of this hobby. ”

"Reading books is to increase the ability to analyze problems and solve problems. This is what the fragmented, fast-food information in the mobile phone cannot be given, and it is necessary to read books, read classics, and learn systematically. To do scientific research, we must first learn to be a person, do big projects, and improve our scientific organization ability, which can draw nutrition from the book. So put down your phone and go to a book. Travel thousands of miles, break ten thousand books. Use knowledge to solve practical problems. Mr. Yao Jianquan made suggestions to young students.
