On the shore of the Xiang River, under the Yuelu Mountain, a thousand-year-old school is quiet and solemn. Climbing up the stone road, we came to Yuelu Academy, one of the four major academies in ancient China.

After thousands of years, the strings and songs are endless. Yuelu Academy has bred a broad and profound Huxiang culture, and has also cultivated generations of literati and scholars. On the occasion of World Book Day, we invited the teachers and students of the Academy to talk about how to get cultural nourishment through reading in the Millennium Academy.

I enjoyed my reading time at the Academy. Whenever you stand in the Imperial Library and look out, you can feel as if you have jumped out of the noisy environment outside. Although the ancient books could not speak, they seemed to have the opportunity to talk to the ancients. We are not only studying history, in fact, we are in history, and we can more deeply feel the power of the ancient literati and gentlemen to be human and to learn.

The academy taught me what it means to really read. In the process of reading, we not only gain knowledge, we also learn how to know and think about ourselves. For me, reading made me understand the truth of life, made me love life more, and made me more determined to be a person who wants to contribute to society and be useful. In Yuelu Academy and in the Imperial Library, what we do is not only reading, looking for books, and finding materials, but more importantly, we are trying to find what kind of mentality to use to get along with ancient books and talk to the world.

Our college students have a special hobby, and we are willing to use most of our pocket money and scholarships to buy some books. Immersed in the quiet and quaint environment of the academy, our reverence for books, knowledge, and classics is born. As academy people, we often wonder, what are we studying for? I think the four words of the academy," "preaching to the people," may have given us some enlightenment. As college people, we should have faith, the courage to take responsibility, shoulder our due responsibilities, and give plans for college people in the new era around the practical problems of the country and society.

The reason why the college is a college is, in the final analysis, because there are "books". In college education, students' own reading is the most important, and the role of books themselves is very core: it is not what the teacher teaches you, but what books teach you. Teachers are the guides and forerunners, and teachers and students work together to pass on wisdom and seek truth in the process of reading. I think reading is a lifelong thing. People's inspiration, improvement of quality, and social development are inseparable from the nourishment of books and culture.
