Carry "sustainability" to the end! Designer Chen Hu teaches you that life does not fall into the "plastic" set

As we all know, reducing carbon emissions has a positive effect on improving global climate change and maintaining the world environment. Looking back over the past few years, the global extreme weather is frequent, and the threat to biodiversity has only increased, while the outbreak of the new crown epidemic in the past few years has made the world experience unprecedented difficulties and challenges, and has once again made us deeply aware of the importance of sustainable development for all mankind and the only one planet.

The concept of low carbon and sustainable development has become increasingly popular. Sustainable development designer Chen Hu, in his creation and work to promote the practice of "sustainable", he expressed in action: "Everything is sustainable".

April 22 is Earth Day.

On March 26, 2022, on the day of the "Earth Hour" action, Chen Hu's "No Fall "Plastic" Set" marine ecological protection concept art installation was launched in Foshan, and the exhibition aroused people's thoughts, setting off everyone's reflection on "plastic" and thinking about sustainable life.

From architectural space designers to installation artists, from the chairman of the design group to the director of the "Jinan University-Hanbo Joint Sustainable Social Design Research Center", from the host of the "City Living Room" program to the master tutor and visiting professor of ME industrial engineering at Jinan University, from the cartoonist to the elite designer of the year, no matter which field the role is blessed, what is constantly "loading" is Chen Hu's idea of "sustainable development". In the eyes of the industry, the sustainable concept of "thinking about globalization, design localization" is more responsible, and over the years, he has adhered to the design thinking of providing customers with sustainable development, and interpreted space design or innovative cultural and commercial travel space with this concept and care.

In 2011, Chen Hu graduated from the University of Applied Sciences of Bern, Switzerland with a master's degree in sustainable architecture; after a comprehensive and systematic study of international advanced low-carbon concepts and technologies, he returned to China, and has been engaged in the design of architectural spaces with "attitude", among which, he proposed the sustainable ecological planning concept of "urban ecological circle", advocated the creation of sustainable ecosystems, and jointly established the "Sustainable Social Design Research Center" with Jinan University, through more design practices of planning architectural projects. Summarizing the construction of a sustainable urban ecosystem, while better exporting international advanced technological solutions for the project; in short, for him, the "sustainable development" of the work or design method is the background color, which is the persistence throughout.

In daily life and production, a large amount of human household garbage enters the ocean, which has posed a serious threat to the living environment of marine life. Data show that more than 1 million marine organisms face life-threatening lives every year by swallowing or getting entangled in plastic.

This set of marine ecological protection concept art installations created by Chen Hu - how does the "plastic" set "take off"? According to reports, the group of works uses living plastics as raw materials, after artistic processing, with the structure of points, lines and surfaces, presenting three three-dimensional silhouettes of turtles, sea lions and dolphins, in order to outline the survival embarrassment of marine life surrounded by garbage. He hopes that this will provoke the public to think about the importance of environmental protection, and call on the public to reduce the use of disposable plastic products in daily life, implement garbage classification, and jointly protect the earth's home.

Chen Hu revealed that "the inspiration for creation has actually been there since before going to Switzerland to study, when I was very concerned about the protection of the ocean." Later, in the process of work, in the in-depth exchange with customers, Shui On Group also attached great importance to the issue of "marine environmental protection", so the two sides hit it off and "installed" the ideas of 10 years ago, and there was a "plastic" set. The industry jokingly calls this installation art a "side business" of Chen Hu, and he enjoys it tirelessly; at the same time, he also believes that "everyone has the responsibility to protect the earth"; the practice of young entrepreneurs for low carbon is an act of social responsibility, and it is a manifestation of entrepreneurs' "wealth and morality". As a result, there is a perfect presentation of "not falling 'plastic' set".

The space designer is particularly sensitive to materials, and in the face of the concern of a large amount of plastic waste, he hopes to experience, try and express the emotions, conceptions and perceptions of things with his eyes, hands and heart through an experimental form of work. The work: not falling into the "plastic" set, expressing a reflection on the human way of life in his heart, and a kind of awakening of how man and nature get along.

At the exhibition site, the color of the "plastic" set is particularly eye-catching, and the image of the marine life is realistic, so that the audience can't help but hold their breath and stop to watch.

Installation art design is primarily about empathy

Speaking of "installation design", Chen Hu said that installation art will become increasingly popular, and after the large architectural space is determined, it cannot be changed from time to time, but through the theme change of installation design, it can echo and attract the audience to participate in it, and the sense of immersive experience is stronger, which is also an extension of the "sustainable development" of the main body of the building. Extending from the theme of the installation to the experience area of the mall, this "theme experience" will be upgraded with the surrounding entertainment facilities, catering facilities, etc., which is especially easy to trigger the empathy of young audiences.

For example, this "no plastic set" installation art exhibition can have a great resonance with the audience; the merchants are supplemented by a number of green actions such as the "Bring Your Own Cup Challenge, the renovation of old things and the recycling of used clothes", which can more effectively enable the audience to adopt a green, low-carbon and environmentally friendly sustainable lifestyle. Proceed to the end. From watching the exhibition to "empathy" to limit plastic, this cognition gradually forms a living habit and is brought to the daily life, and a meaningful "environmental protection" immersion journey is convenient for this to unfold.

In the cultural and commercial travel scenario, "sustainable" will be carried out to the end

According to reports, a piece of plastic, from being discarded to completely decomposing, takes at least 50 years or more. In his work, Chen Hu has always been "focusing on the topic of environmental protection and experimenting on the sustainability of the earth".

In Chen Hu's understanding, the "sustainable development model" is a development model that does not affect the quality of life of the present, but also cannot affect the quality of life of future generations.

Therefore, "plastic restriction" is not the ultimate goal of environmental protection, and to live "sustainably" requires its "rebirth". Earlier, Chen Hu's "Breaking the Cocoon into a Butterfly" environmental protection art installation successfully "broke the circle": it was the use of a highly malleable recycled fiber material - recycled polyester. This material has extremely strong replastic properties and can be reused many times, thus enabling the sustainable experiment of "recycling" on the earth.

The environmental protection art installation "Breaking the Cocoon into a Butterfly" uses recycled polyester, an environmentally friendly material, to create a secondary creation, and to experiment with the sustainability of the earth, causing visitors to have a spatial dialogue and environmental protection reflection in the era of fast consumption, thus awakening the public's awareness of saving the earth's pollution and advocating sustainable environmental protection. With diversified, youthful and interesting social participation methods, original environmental installations spanning art, materials science and color psychology allow the audience to walk through it freely and truly feel the beauty of the earth.

Among Chen Hu's many successful identities, the series of hand-painted works of "City Statue - Lao Guang Mark of Chen Hu" have attracted our attention to the artistic talent of his "cartoonist", both "Life Under the Arcade" and architectural design-related thinking, as well as "Cash Register", which is a comic essay of the old memory, and the industry commented that "Chen Hu has experienced more of the needs, feelings, and culture, behavior, and lifestyle of space users in the practice of hand-painting in architectural space for many years. This process is already about the understanding of the use of spatial value. And Chen Hu humbly said, "Learning to paint is a child's skill."

Chen Hu was born in Guangzhou's artistic family, his cross-border artistic creation originated from the influence of his father from childhood, his father is a graduate of the Oil Painting Department of Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, a famous realist oil painter, under the guidance of his father's solid art Tong Zigong In the practice of hand-painting in architectural space for many years, he experienced more about the needs, feelings, and carrying of culture, behavior and lifestyle of space users. Combined with personal experience, Chen Hu suggested that children's painting from primary school is "art children's skills", which is of great benefit to the "sustainable development" of life, from a small point of view, after learning to paint, it is helpful to dress and aesthetics; from a large point of view, learning to paint is a very elegant spiritual enjoyment for self-cultivation.
