On April 19, 2022, Pan Jiluan, an expert in welding engineering, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering of Tsinghua University, died in Beijing at the age of 95.
Pan Jiluan is a famous "welding giant" in the mainland and one of the founders of the development of welding science and technology in China. He pioneered the welding technology of high-speed rails, served as the welding consultant of China's first self-built nuclear power plant, made the high-speed rail track "seamless", made the nuclear power plant "airtight", and led and promoted the scientific development of international welding engineering.
In 2017, 90-year-old Pan Jiluan proudly said when she participated in the recording of the first season of "Readers" -
"Now our welding level of steel rails in China exceeds that of any other country in the world."
Until his death, Pan Jiluan was still struggling in the front line of scientific research. He used one engineering technique after another, one country after another, to closely "weld" his life with China.
