Rwanda, a small country known as the "Land of a Thousand Hills", is blessed with rich natural scenery and a long history and culture. Its capital, Kigali, is the economic and cultural center of the country, with a large population and bustling hustle and bustle, but it also hides many unexpected stories.
The first time I set foot on the land of Kigali, I was blown away by what I saw. With high-rise buildings rising from the ground, traffic and people coming and going, the city seems to be full of infinite energy and opportunity. However, when I got to know the city in depth, I discovered an unexpected phenomenon: unemployment is high, and prices are flat and people are scarce.
The cause of all this may be traced back to the history of Rwanda. This country has experienced a horrific genocide that has brought heavy pain and trauma to the country. Although society is now stable, the shadow of the past still lingers and affects the development process of the entire country. Many people who have lost their homes and loved ones are struggling to restart their lives, facing employment challenges and a lack of education and skills, making high unemployment a major problem in Kigali.
I once met a girl named Anna, a local university student in Kigali. Anna's family is not wealthy, but she has a resilient character and a vision for the future. In my conversation with her, I learned that she was looking for part-time work every day to pay for her school fees, hoping to ease the financial burden on her family. However, the reality is often harsh, and while Kigali is a bustling city, there aren't many job opportunities, especially for young people like Anna, who often face stiff competition and cutthroat challenges.
In addition to unemployment, prices in Kigali are also surprising. Despite high unemployment, prices in the cities are relatively stable, and the prices of many necessities are not high. This may be due to a series of policy measures taken by the government, as well as the country's development strategy, but in any case, this phenomenon is also puzzling.
During my trip to Kigali, I also visited some of the famous local tourist attractions. For example, Kagera Park is a nature reserve that is home to a variety of wildlife, allowing visitors to get up close and personal with nature and experience the magnificent scenery of the African savannah. The Golden Eagle Sculpture Park is also a landmark in Kigali, with a variety of lifelike sculptures showcasing Rwanda's rich artistic and cultural heritage.
In this vibrant and challenging city, everyone has their own story to tell, and every street carries a rich culture and history. Despite the high unemployment rate, the people of Kigali have not given up hope for the future and are still working hard to achieve their dreams. Perhaps, it is this tenacious spirit and love of life that has enabled the city to continue to move forward despite all kinds of difficulties and challenges.
Looking back on my time in Kigali, I was deeply moved by the city. Its exuberance and challenges are intertwined to create a colorful picture.
