Sony released a new UWP-D wireless microphone series

On April 6, 2022, Sony released the new URX-P41D dual-channel portable receiver that supports the MI (Multi-Interface) Shoe with digital audio interface. The key features of the URX-P41D are included in the fourth-generation UWP-D series, such as digital audio processing with improved sound quality, NFC synchronization capability for quick and easy setup from reception to transmitter, and powerful features such as automatic gain mode and output level control, making sound recording easier.

As part of the market-outstanding UWP-D series, the URX-P41D will work with all UWP-D transmitters (backwards compatible with previous generations) and can also be used as a standalone receiver and as part of a new UWP-D27 package that will include two UTX-B40 bodypack transmitters.

The URX-P41D is ideal for users of Sony's XDCAM cameras, Alpha Microsing Cameras, and FX Series Cinema Cameras* for broadcast and news productions, live emergency interviews, and documentary and series productions.

Key features include:

1. Digital audio interface for improved sound quality

Digital compression using DSP (Digital Signal Processing) improves sound quality by optimizing the constant time range between transmitter and receiver, making sound reproduction more accurate. It provides excellent transient response performance, and the audio is clearer for interview-style recording.

With the SMAD-P5 MI Hot Shoe Adapter, digital audio recording can be made directly, skipping the conversion process between digital and analog, providing high sound quality and low noise performance. The interface is compatible with a wide range of Sony XDCAM cameras, Alpha Micro SingleTM cameras and FX Series movie cameras. *It also integrates seamlessly with Sony camcorders and displays audio information on the sensor, improving usability in the field.

2. "NFC SYNC" function, which shows quick and easy channel settings

With this feature, simple and fast channel setup for RF transmissions can be made. This capability is critical when time is of the essence. The "NFC SYNC" feature has enhanced usability, a performance designed for simple and fast frequency settings. Just press and hold the "NFC SYNC" button on the receiver for a few seconds and it will automatically scan for the appropriate frequency. After that, whenever the receiver is in contact with the transmitter, the channels are synchronized for satisfactory speed and efficiency.

3. More functional, compact design

The URX-P41D has been reduced from the size of previous generations of receivers and can be mounted on the upper part of the camera or interchangeable lens camera/camera with MI hot shoe/cold shoe, improving camera balance.

4. External microphone input and three-channel hybrid function

With an external microphone input for an additional wired microphone, the options for sound acquisition are expanded. With an external microphone input, a three-channel audio recording can be made using Sony's lavalier microphone. In addition, four-channel audio recording can be made by connecting a stereo microphone with an external microphone input interface.

5. Stable video reception mode

The URX-P41D has two receiving antennas, and by utilizing a spatial diversity receiving system, it is possible to reduce reception interruptions (RF signal loss) and thus achieve highly stable signal reception. The angle of the antenna on the portable receiver can also be adjusted, which helps to further avoid signal loss.

6. Various functions to improve on-site performance

On set, the audio level is also maintained correctly, and the automatic gain mode and output level control give the user peace of mind. Automatic gain helps prevent accidental distortion, and output level control (using XLR cables) allows the user to increase the output level if necessary.
