Although he had been treated with anesthesia, Zhu Zhibin could still feel the occasional nerve sting. But he can endure all this, in order to make up for the regret of "baldness", he chose to do hair transplant surgery.
After the removed hair follicles were separated inside a sterile saline Petri dish, Zhu Zhibin rolled over and lay on his back, and the doctor began to transplant hair on the top of his head. Zhu Zhibin left a heart eye, and with the action of implanting hair follicles, he began to count in his mind, "1, 2, 3... 780......”。 He didn't finish counting, and he fell asleep in a daze. Two days later, he photographed the scalp of the transplanted hair and began to "count the hair" one by one. No, it's "counting hair follicles". He only counted more than 2,000 units. According to the previous agreement, the hair transplantation agency promised to transplant 3580 hair follicle units for Zhu Zhibin, each unit 8 yuan. Therefore, the cost is 28,000.
This may be the first hair transplant dispute case in China based on "counting hair". In 2020, Zhu Zhibin sued the hair transplant agency on the grounds that the number of hair implants did not meet the agreed amount. Over the next year or so, he counted his hair seven or eight times, zoomed in on his photos on a computer, and marked them with a paintbrush. However, in all three trials, he lost the case. He was not convinced and is still planning a protest.
According to data released by the National Health Commission, more than 250 million people in the mainland are suffering from hair loss, with an average of 1 in 6 people, including 163 million men. Hair loss is more like a "hidden corner" for men. There is inferiority, fear, shame, unbearableness and despair hidden in it – some people spend decades, decades, exploring the secret recipe for increasing or covering up; some people wear hats for years; some people blame it on genes and argue with their parents; and some even want to commit suicide.
The male hair loss program "Baldness" produced by Tencent News Haoyu Zhishi Studio, which was launched today, takes us into the hidden corner of a man with hair loss. Among them, Zhu Zhibin told the story of his hair follicle counting. The other two interviewees in this article, Wang Shu and Luo Linchuan, also confided in the troubles caused by hair loss. "Counting hair follicles" men
After shaving his head and applying anesthesia, Zhu Zhibin lay down on the operating table. The doctor began to take hair on the back of his head. The effect of anesthesia makes Zhu Zhibin feel that "the scalp has become very thick", but the tip of the needle extracted from the needle will still occasionally sting.
Hair follicles are skin organs where hair survives, and 2 to 5 hairs grow on each hair follicle. There are about 100,000 hair follicles on a person's scalp, or 200,000 to 500,000 hairs. However, Zhu Zhibin did not have this number. In his 30s, he began to give thanks.
Zhu Zhibin was born in 1984 and opened a jade shop in Beijing's Fengtai district. He went to the store every day to sit in class, went to school at 5 p.m. to pick up the children, and after eating at 6 o'clock, he began to play "League of Legends" and played until 11 o'clock at night. Within two years, his hair was rapidly falling out and the hairlines on either side of his forehead receded to become a standard "M" shape. He boiled it down to playing games.
For a long time, he always habitually touched it with his hands, "it was very uncomfortable to touch". In 2017, just with a little spare money in hand, Zhu Zhibin decided to go to hair transplantation. According to the data of Tianyancha, as of December 2021, there are 36,378 hair transplantation enterprises in operation, opening and operating in China, and 4477 within one year of establishment. Before hair transplantation, Zhu Zhibin searched on the Internet and inspected four hair transplantation institutions. Considering the price, service attitude, environment and other factors, he chose Y, a hair transplant agency in Dongcheng District, Beijing. On October 15, 2017, he went to undergo hair transplant surgery.
The whole process lasted more than 5 hours.

The basic principle of hair transplantation is to remove part of the hair follicles on the back of the head and plant them into the hair loss parts on the forehead and the top of the head. If you look at it from the side, or look at the picture, you can see that there are dense blood spots on the back of the head and forebrain. The doctor will constantly wipe these bleeding spots.
Zhu Zhibin always felt that the process of extracting handles and needles on the scalp during surgery was "very fast and very casual". He tried to explain the doctor's "not meticulous", resulting in the death and waste of many hair follicles in the back of his head.
Extracting the sound made by the handle made him think of a flash drill carved into jade. When the doctor is tired, he will also take a break. Meanwhile, next to the operating table, two nurses sort out the hair follicles inside a sterile wet saline gauze Petri dish. Zhu Zhibin could hear their snickering chat.
The procedure begins at 2 p.m. and the implant starts at 4 p.m. The hair follicles are inserted into the bald area, "like a sewing machine." Zhu Zhibin was worried about cutting corners at the Y agency, so he began counting from the time of the first hair follicle implantation. But maybe it was the effect of anesthesia, maybe it was five or six o'clock in the evening when he was hungry, his energy was a little unable to keep up, and when he counted to about 800, he lost the number. At 7 p.m., the surgery was over. Agency Y called a ride-hailing car and sent him home.
After removing the gauze the next day, Zhu Zhibin asked his wife to help take pictures. Although the blank space of the M-shape was covered, he felt sparse and not dense enough. After 6 days, he went to the Y institution to wash his hair, and when he returned, he arranged the thread sewing clothes into a "well" shape, divided it into 9 blocks, and took another photo. The results of both times are more than 2050.
He went to the Y institution to discuss the explanation, and the doctor said that there would be no less species, that it would require a recovery period, and that it would be longer in a few months. A year later, he found himself "fooled", "How much you plant is how much, it will not change, how can it grow?" ”
He went to the Y agency again, "You can collect as much as you plant, and return the remaining 10,000 yuan to me." Zhu Zhibin did a small business, 8 yuan a unit, he cared about the money. But Agency Y denies fewer species. According to the contract, "the guaranteed survival rate of hair transplantation ≥ 95%", otherwise "you can encrypt hair transplantation or refund 2 times free of charge". Institution Y proposed replanting, but Zhu Zhibin refused. He found that the hair behind his head was much thinner than before. "Touch it all thin, how dare they continue to re-enact?"
Two years after the hair transplantation, Zhu Zhibin's head touched the pillow, "dizziness and headache rushed up, like a feeling of cerebral hemorrhage." Every day he slept, he could only lie on his side, or pull the pillow down and put it around his neck. For the first few months, he couldn't eat spicy, couldn't eat meat, and washed his hair carefully, for fear of scratching his hair.

In 2019, Zhu Zhibin began to defend his rights - looking for 3.15, he was pushed to the Dongcheng District Industrial and Commercial Bureau; the Industrial and Commercial Bureau asked him to find the Health Commission; and then he was pushed to mediate the commission. During this time, he forced the Y agency to provide medical records, and the coordination committee asked him to find the Industrial and Commercial Bureau. The Industrial and Commercial Bureau helped coordinate once, let the two sides make an appointment, and count the hair follicles in person.
This time, the top of Zhu Zhibin's head was divided into 12 tiles. The doctor of the Y institution took a magnifying glass and a pen, and before he could count to 100, he began to "pretend and mess up" on Zhu Zhibin's head. Zhu Zhibin said that the nurse in the back took the mobile phone calculator, counted several times, made up the number, and told him that there were more than 3300 in total. "They fool people without fooling." Zhu Zhibin felt that it was a waste of time and went straight away.
In 2020, Zhu Zhibin sued Agency Y three times. Because the lawsuit is not big, he is unwilling to spend money, and he thinks that the odds are very good, Zhu Zhibin did not hire a lawyer, but defended himself. According to the judge's guidance, the first civil lawsuit was split into two lawsuits: "illegal contract agreement" and "service fraud". In September 2020, the court ruled that Zhu Zhibin lost both lawsuits on the grounds that "the number (2050 units) was calculated by himself" and "there is no factual and legal basis".
Zhu Zhibin then processed the photo. He zoomed in on the photo on his computer and marked each hair follicle with a red dot. In order for the judge to confirm, he framed every 5 red dots into a box, "even counting the middle strand of my own hair", and finally counted 2942 units.
However, in November 2020, the Beijing Municipal No. 2 Intermediate People's Court's judgment still did not approve of Zhu Zhibin's calculation method, saying that "this court cannot calculate the number of specific implanted hair follicles based on photos", so it upheld the original judgment of the first instance.
Before and after the two levels of trial, Zhu Zhibin communicated with the judge in advance, and the judge thought that he was not counting correctly, which was not clear. Zhu Zhibin was anxious, "I can't count this clearly, find a primary school student to count for him." In the past year or so, Zhu Zhibin has still tried to improve the material and filed a protest. He went to the judge many times and offered to find a unit that taught hair transplantation and was also recognized by the court, "I can pay them to count." But the court still did not recognize, "there is no such unit." ”

Hidden pain
Wang Shu did not have Zhu Zhibin's courage to transplant his hair, but hair loss caused him no less trouble than Zhu Zhibin. At the age of 30, Wang Shu made the biggest effort in love. The whole process was like an adventure, making him hesitate, confused, frightened, and finally back down.
Wang Shu is a native of Tianjin and also worked in Tianjin after graduating from university. In May 2020, he met a girl named Zhang Yue in the Douyin anchor fan group. The two first chatted qq, then WeChat, talking about everything. For the first time in many years, Wang Shu met a girl whose views on love and family were so compatible.
"She said that in the intimate relationship between men and women, two people must be attracted to each other and can maintain their independence." This is wang shu's concept. He felt that this was a "principled, self-disciplined" girl. When it comes to the family economy, Zhang Yue believes that girls should take the initiative to assume an economic role, and if they can't, they should give appreciation to the boys' efforts and form an incentive two-way driving force. Wang Shu feels that this girl is "independent, autonomous, generous, and has her own ideas." He felt "particularly good".
However, the stronger and more intimate the atmosphere, the more frightened Wang Shu became. He carefully controlled the "ambiguous thread" in the middle.
What he cares about is his own image, or more precisely, hair loss. After talking for about three weeks, the two exchanged photos. The other party is a female student with a "general level or above", graduated from 211 University, and works within the system. Wang Shu played a little "careful machine" and sent a photo that obscured the hairline, "I thought that such an excellent girl would run when she saw me and didn't pull her leg?" ”
According to the 7 grades of the International Hamilton Androgenic Hair Loss Standard, the degree of hair loss in Wang Shu is in the fourth grade, which is moderate. If left unsheathed, you can see that the hairline is already on top of the head, revealing a glowing forehead.

In the relationship between the two, he tried his best to avoid "appearances". Zhang Yue once proposed a video call, and Wang Shu refused on the pretext of "preferring text communication". As a result, he also rarely pronounces speech. Sometimes, the chat atmosphere between the two sides seems to be ambiguous. For example, Zhang Yue said that today is a little uncomfortable. Wang Shu wanted to say, "I'll touch your head." When the words came to the lips, they were temporarily changed to "Do you want to buy some medicine and go to the hospital?" Then immediately changed the subject.
"When it comes to ambiguity, I feel unnatural." This became a habitual reaction of Wang Shu. He knew that if he went forward, he would definitely have to go to the step of meeting, and as soon as he met, it was "basically over." He did not want to develop too fast, did not want to see the dream of accelerating the disillusionment, "pull back, just keep the relationship a little higher than the friend line, may not be broken." ”
For Zhang Yue, Wang Shu was both happy and afraid. Sometimes he sent messages, the other party did not reply for an hour or two, in exchange for others will be disappointed, but Wang Shu is so relieved, "Great, it is best not to reply to me." In the next few days, he will be immersed in inferiority, hesitation, and contradiction.
One morning, Zhang Yue asked Wang Shu what he was doing, and Wang Shu replied that he was watching a movie. Zhang Yue said that he went from Jinnan District to Beichen District to do things, about 2 p.m., "I feel that you have nothing to do today, or let's come out and meet?" ”
Wang Shu immediately panicked. Holding the phone, I don't know if I should say "yes". He went to the bathroom and cleaned himself up in the mirror. For a full 10 minutes, "the more you look at it, the less you can't do it." He could only reply that there was something going on at home and that he was going to drive his parents out. Zhang Yue said, "What a pity." Wang Shu quickly looked for a remedy, "Another day." Another day I'll go to the south to run errands, and I'll go find you. ”
After a few times, the relationship between the two faded. After September 2020, contact was gradually broken.
"Rotten genes like me, don't harm the next generation"
Wang Shu's inferiority is not without reason - in the previous 10 years, his hair has become a stumbling block for him more than once.
In 2014, when he first started working, his family arranged a blind date for him. The two met at Starbucks. Wang Shu couldn't forget the look in the other person's eyes, "Just look at my head when it's okay." He pretended to be calm, knowing in his heart that there would be no play.
Afterwards, the other party replied "no eye edge". But Wang Shu knew very well that this was an excuse, and the problem was in his hair. After that, his hair fell out even more severely, "If you shave your hair short, the whole scalp will be exposed." You can only leave the hair on both sides long and then pull it to the middle to cover it. ”
The hair loss began to frighten Wang Shu. He deliberately pays attention to the hair. Sometimes after washing his hair, he would clear the water in the basin, count the number of hair that fell, and find that it did not exceed the normal person's 50-100 hair loss. But the trend of hair loss could not be contained, and he began to develop diffuse hair loss. That is to say, the average person will grow new hair after hair loss, and he, after hair loss, shrinks or even dies, it will fall off permanently.
In 2016, Wang Shu talked about a girlfriend. At that time, he would use dense hair fiber powder every day to make his hair appear a thick effect. One day, Wang Shu drove his girlfriend to the coastal exam, and then the two went to the beach to play. A gust of wind blew, and Wang Shu's hair was lifted. A few years later, he still remembers the scene, "You just think of some funny GIFs, and the hair 'exhales' and floats up, just like the feeling of the Tianling Cover directly lifted." ”
Wang Shu was embarrassed for a moment and quickly reached out to pull his hair down. But the girl had already seen it. On the way back, the two didn't talk much. The relationship also gradually cooled down.
If before, Wang Shu did not feel that hair loss was a big "sin", then after repeated blind dates and love failures, he became deeply disgusted with hair loss, and even began to hate himself.
Wang Shu began to lose his hair at the age of 19 – this is his own "backwards".
During college, he didn't notice that he had severe hair loss. Later, looking back at the photo, he noticed that when he was a freshman and sophomore, the hair in the two foreheads gradually thinned. At that time, his classmates even ridiculed him that "his head was going bald."
At work, some colleagues occasionally joke, "This look is the leader"; good friends will see hair transplant advertisements and casually ask, "Do you want to try it?" Wang Shu felt harmless and took the initiative to say, "Okay, quickly recommend it to me." I'm worried I can't find it. "He's self-deprecating and self-deprecating in order to fit into the social atmosphere." But after the joke, when a person is alone, he "does not feel good in his heart."
Wang Shu thought of genes—Wang Shu's father only had mild hair loss, and his hairline naturally moved back after he was forty or fifty years old, but Grandpa and Grandpa had serious hair loss. He judged that he might be "genetically separated from generation to generation."
In September 2020, under the inferiority and withdrawal, his relationship with Zhang Yue ended. One day after dinner, he remembered the trouble with his hair and asked his mother, "How do you see my hair doing?" Bald? In the past, Wang Shu often asked his parents such questions, and the latter would always say, "No." This time, Wang Shu got the same answer.
Wang Shu suddenly erupted, and he said back, "There is nothing, there is nothing." Then he showed his scalp and asked his parents to take pictures with their mobile phones. When his parents comforted him, he shook him back. Mom was a little distressed, "Little bunch, what's wrong with you?" It was as if I had taken the wrong medicine. ”

That night, Wang Shu confided a lot of grievances to his parents - every morning at 8:30 to work, from home to work for 6 minutes, but Wang Shu had to get up at 7 o'clock. He needs to straighten his hair. It's a complicated process: wash your hair first, blow dry it, try to get to the middle, find various angles, and then sprinkle powder on it, and then spray hair gel... The whole process takes 40 minutes.
My parents didn't speak for half a day. At the end, my mother replied, complaining that he stayed up late and played games when he was in college, "Although your hair loss is related to genes, your own unhealthy habits also exacerbate hair loss." Wang Shu was anxious, he gave examples of other classmates who had the same habits of life, but they were fine. He even blamed his parents for not having enough "knowledge level" to let him notice the hair loss problem in advance, "If you start to control it with medication from the age of twenty-one or two, it may be much lighter than it is now." ”
Of course, Wang Shu knew that he was venting his emotions, but it was also true that hair loss made him have a thorough reflection and doubt about life.

Fate dictated by hair loss
"If I could grow my hair back, I would cut off a little thumb or a toe in exchange." Many years later, Luo Linchuan recalled the inferiority and trepidation of his youth, only to find that the trajectory of his life's fate was almost entangled with hair loss.
In 1992, Luo Linchuan, who graduated from a university in Hunan, went to a university in Shanghai as a teacher and started a family, everything seemed to be going well, but the only problem was in his hair.
Lorraine is hereditary alopecia that cannot be contained, the hair is visibly lost to the naked eye, and the forehead develops from M-shaped to "Mediterranean". After the Christmas young teachers' gathering one year, everyone took a group photo, and Luo Linchuan smiled happily. A few days later, when the photo was printed, he was dumbfounded, "A hair on the top of his head stood up, the bald head was exposed, and the smile on his face was very exaggerated." That contrast is too obvious. He was devastated and saw his hair as a "great shame."
But There was nothing Luo Linchuan could do. Once in the dormitory, after taking a shower, he looked in the mirror and straightened his hair. Blown with a hair dryer and stylized with hairspray, he tried to cover the bald part with long hair on either side. After tossing and turning for an hour or two, I didn't look exactly what I wanted. He was desperate.

During the lecture in class, when he saw the students laughing, he was suspiciously laughing at his hair. So he used self-deprecation to release the pressure, "The teacher's mind is good, so it doesn't grow hair." Everyone laughed even more. Another time, on the way to the cafeteria, two female students walked together and discussed their respective teachers. The girl in his class said, "My English teacher is the one with very little hair." Luo Linchuan was embarrassed and quickly turned and walked away.
He became less confident. The teaching group met, he was the leader of the group, but he wanted to sit back, "people become only promises, do not dare to look directly into the eyes of others, dare not say what they want to say, do not dare to do what they want to do." "One year, when I went to Wenzhou Yandang Mountain with my first wife, it was inevitable to ask for directions on the road, and the other party often walked away with a blank eye when he looked at Luo Linchuan. I can only change my wife and ask. The wife was angry: "I can't even ask for directions." Later, the two divorced, and Luo Linchuan attributed the reason to his own lack of self-confidence, which made his wife distrust him.
"Why did this fall on me?" One summer, he learned to shave his head and found that shaving was also a "chestnut head" (a hairstyle similar to a mushroom head, which Luo Linchuan likened to the head shape of a "small ghost in a traditional New Year painting"), and was still "ugly". He was desperate and even wanted to become a monk.
During that time, Luo Linchuan would try when he saw the hair care formula, and successively tried more than 20 kinds of earthworks, and also bought various hats. To pay for these costs, he had to work harder to work part-time off campus. At a memorial service, when others bowed to the body, he was the only one wearing a hat, and the whispered accusations of those behind him made him blush.
Years later, Luo Linchuan realized that people with hair loss often do not understand the cause of hair loss and fall into anxiety, and this psychological pressure will bring a vicious circle, leading to more hair loss.
The first ways that Wang Shu and his parents could think of were some folklore and Chinese medicine recipes: eating black sesame seeds, eating walnuts, smearing ginger, all kinds of shampoos, all kinds of Chinese medicines... "I have paid all these IQ taxes." Wang Shu said that ginger is ineffective, a spoonful of black sesame seeds a day leads to more oil, eating walnuts leads to fire, and silicone patting the head is not effective.
"According to Chinese medicine, it is that the kidney qi is insufficient and the body is weak. Therefore, the prescription is something that strengthens the spleen, replenishes qi, and consolidates the foundation. Until 2021, Wang Shu continued to drink Chinese medicine. For a long time, he used hair powder to cover up the embarrassment of hair loss. But the incident at the beach in 2016 made him feel uneasy. He thought of hair transplantation, so he went online to look up information and try to figure out the principle. A self-described article "Hair loss tortures life" tells the author's hair transplantation experience, "the new plant is fine, the original area continues to fall off", and at the same time talks about many problems of hair transplantation. That article impressed Wang Shu, so he has not yet chosen hair transplantation.
In fact, in 2015, Wang Shu noticed two drugs, minoxidil and finasteride. He later reflected that the two drugs had more than 30 years of clinical history and rich data support at that time, but he did not understand, coupled with the rumors of "side effects", resulting in him not daring to use them.
Wang Shu is a person who must study and understand everything before practicing it. Minoxidil and finasteride are two drugs, the former is applied externally, and the latter is taken internally. These are currently the two most famous drugs for hair loss in the world. In fact, they don't help grow hair. Minoxidil was originally used to lower blood pressure, but vasodilation helps to help hair follicles absorb nutrients, thereby protecting hair growth; finasteride is often used to treat prostatic hyperplasia, but it can reduce the amount of male hormones in the human body and help slow hair loss.
Before using these two drugs, Wang Shu checked a lot of information and saw a flood of "side effects" on the Internet, such as the irreversible effects on sexual function and reproductive function, and he was frightened. Then, he went to the Medical Forum in the United States, CNKI Chinese and other websites to download professional journal literature, and combined with the information of all parties to determine: the probability of adverse effects on sexual function of two drugs is only 2%. "Drugs can make the primary hair piece no longer go in a worse direction." Wang Shu decided to start trying, "First ensure the stock, and then see if there is a chance to get some increments." ”
Indeed, after three or four months of minoxidil's use, Wang Shu felt that some small hairs grew on the top of his head, but there was no major breakthrough after that. On the contrary, the oral drug finasteride does effectively inhibit the loss of hair.
At first, Wang Shu was still jealous of its side effects, and he was worried that he would not have a chance to pass on the lineage. But soon, he made up his mind, "It doesn't matter what it procreates or doesn't have children, first solve the hair situation, and then talk about it later." ”
Nowadays, Wang Shu is almost half a hair loss expert, with a variety of "knowledge" accumulation and solutions. But "knowledge" came too late. He often regrets that if he had mastered this knowledge a few years ago, he might have fallen in love and married, would have an extra hour of sleep every morning, and would have been more open at work and social, "That may be another life trajectory." ”
"Actually, as soon as you turn around, who cares how your hair is?"
Luo Linchuan's "new life" comes from wigs. In 2005, because of a fortuitous trip to the United States, Luo Linchuan took a wig from a friend and suddenly found a new self. After that, he began to work as a wig agent in China, and later founded his own wig brand. In 2010, he resigned from his teaching position and became a well-known wig entrepreneur in China. But in order to eliminate cultural and psychological barriers, they always called what they were doing "additional products."
This is not without reason. Wig products imported from the United States, constantly updated and iterated, have become extremely realistic, "to the point where you want to hide from your wife for a lifetime." Luo Linchuan said. As a result, he also came into contact with more people with hair loss problems. One of the young men in his 20s told Luo Linchuan that after work, he dragged his tired body to the subway, "As soon as he sat down, the woman next to him bounced up and stood to the side." The young man was ashamed and uneasy, and immediately rushed out of the car door at the next stop, and behind him came the insult of another person, "stinky hooligan".
Luo Linchuan was well aware of this humiliation, "What is indecency? What is a ghost head? Whether Chinese or foreign, in film and television works, cultural psychology, bad people are always associated with hair loss. "In 2015, When Prince William of the United Kingdom visited China, all the discussions on the Internet were his baldness. In the 2020 hit TV series "The Hidden Corner", Zhang Dongsheng, played by Qin Hao, took his parents-in-law to climb the mountain and pushed the second elder down the mountain. When he returned home, he took off his wig in front of the mirror, revealing his balding ugliness, which was widely circulated as a meme.
In the past hundred years, human society has always been fighting against discrimination such as racial discrimination, gender discrimination and disability discrimination, regarding anti-discrimination as "political correctness" and legislating protection.
