10,000 local cases show that the domestic new crown vaccine has reduced the risk of pneumonia in the elderly by 72%

Data analysis from more than 10,000 local COVID-19 cases showed that after the completion of the full vaccination of the domestic COVID-19 vaccine, the risk of pneumonia in people infected with Omilon aged 60 and above was reduced by 72%.

On April 8, the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CCDC weekly) published a study analyzing the association between domestic COVID-19 vaccination and the clinical severity of patients after infection with Delta or Omi kerong through a large number of cases. The authors include Gao Fu, director of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, and others.

This retrospective analytical study included all 10,829 cases (8,675 Delta, 2,154 Aomi Kerong) cases of indigenous COVID-19 reported to the National Statutory Disease Reporting System (NNDRS) between 21 May 2021 and 28 February 2022.

Domestic vaccines significantly reduce the risk of pneumonia and severe illness

Combined with data from the National Immunization Information System (NIPIS), the 10,829 cases were divided into four categories: unvaccinated, partially vaccinated, fully vaccinated, and intensively vaccinated.

Specifically, among infected people over the age of 3, 15.1% were not vaccinated, 7.3% were partially vaccinated, 63.6% completed the full course of vaccination, and 14.0% received booster doses.

Of the 10,829 infected cases, of all cases fully vaccinated, 95.1% (7849) were vaccinated, 2.2% (183) were vaccinated against adenovirus vectors, and 2.7% (223) were vaccinated against recombinant subunits.

The data show that of the 1793 unvaccinated infected people (1631 Delta, 162 Omiqueron), 59.0% of Delta infected people, 37.7% of Omiqueron infected people have pneumonia, 10.6% of Delta infected people, and 2.5% of Omiqueron infected people are severe critical cases. Compared to Delta, those infected with Aumechjong had a 68% lower risk of pneumonia and an 80% lower risk of severe critical illness.

Relatively speaking, although there are breakthrough infections in the new crown vaccine, studies at home and abroad have shown that the protection rate of existing new crown vaccines against hospitalization and death is still very high.

The results of this study also show that among the infected people who have completed the full vaccination of the domestic new crown vaccine, the proportion of pneumonia and severe critical illness is significantly lower than that of the unvaccinated group.

Among them, delta infected people aged 3-17, 18-59 years old and ≥ 60 years old who completed the full vaccination reduced the risk of pneumonia by 58%, 51% and 66%, respectively. The risk of critical illness was reduced by 83% and 69% in the 18-59 years old and ≥ 60 years old group, respectively.

At the same time, ≥ 60-year-old Ami kerong infected person with pneumonia, the risk of developing pneumonia decreased by 72%.

During the study, starting in October 2021, China began to promote enhanced vaccination for adults over the age of 18.

Studies have shown that in delta cases aged 18 to 59 years and ≥ 60 years old, increased vaccination reduced the risk of developing pneumonia by 86% and 86%, respectively. At the same time, compared with unvaccinated, the increased vaccination of the 18-59-year-old and ≥ 60-year-old age groups has reduced the risk of severe COVID-19 by 98% and 91% respectively.

Among those infected with Omiljung, who ≥ 60 years of age, vaccination reduced the risk of developing pneumonia by 65% and there were no severe critical illnesses. Compared with unvaccinated people, ≥ 60-year-old Omilon infected people have a 90% lower risk of developing severe COVID-19.

Strengthening vaccination should be accelerated

Compared with the international mRNA and adenovirus vector COVID-19 vaccines, there are fewer real research data on breakthrough infections in domestic COVID-19 vaccination populations. The analysis of the clinical results of this breakthrough infection in the weekly report of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention is an important supplement to the efficacy and observational effectiveness data of the clinical trial of the domestic NEW CROWN vaccine.

Based on the above findings, the report believes that individuals aged 3 years and older without contraindications should be vaccinated throughout the new crown vaccine; adults who meet the time interval should be vaccinated intensively, and the speed of intensification should be accelerated, especially in the elderly.

According to data released by the National Health and Construction Commission, as of April 7, 2022, 31 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central Government) and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps have reported a cumulative total of 3,289,463,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine.

As of April 5, the total number of vaccinated people nationwide reached 1,278.724 million, and 1,243.226 million people had been vaccinated, covering 90.70% of the total population and 88.18% of the total population. 75.693 million people were immunized intensively, of which 19.512 million were continuously immunized. The number of people over the age of 60 who are vaccinated reached 224.182 million, 212.823 million people were vaccinated throughout the whole process, and 146.582 million people were immunized intensively.

In this round of the Jilin epidemic, severe and critically ill patients have advanced age, low vaccination rate, and more serious underlying diseases.

"Before there was no vaccine, the two risk factors that led to severe illness and death, one was advanced age and one was an underlying disease, and now another factor has been added, that is, not vaccinated." At the press conference of the joint prevention and control mechanism of the State Council on the 6th, Wang Huaqing, chief expert of the immunization program of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, said that in a hospital in Jilin designated to treat new crown patients, the proportion of severe and critically ill patients with two vaccinations is only about 15%. Severely ill patients do present at an advanced age with uninjuded and chronic underlying diseases at an advanced age.

Wang Huaqing said that for the elderly and people with underlying diseases, the best measure to reduce severe illness and death is to get vaccinated. Vaccination has moved the threshold of measures to reduce severe illness and death forward, and vaccination has played a role in preventing severe illness and preventing death.

Lei Zhenglong, deputy director of the Disease Control Bureau of the National Health Commission and a first-level inspector, said at the press conference that the current national epidemic prevention and control situation is still complex and severe, and vaccination and effective personal protection are effective means for the prevention and control of the new crown pneumonia epidemic. "In order to further organize the new crown vaccination work, we have recently redeployed and rearranged the vaccination of the elderly population."

Wang Huaqing also stressed that if people who have not been vaccinated are vaccinated, the protective effect should be produced for a period of time, usually after 14 days after the whole process will have a better effect. "Those who are not fully vaccinated should be vaccinated as soon as possible, especially now that there is an increased risk of transmission during the Omilon epidemic."
