Recitation of Chapter 1:

Chapter 1 (Excerpt)

When I was six years old, I saw a very beautiful painting in a book related to the primeval forest, called "True Story". There is a large python in the painting that is about to devour a beast.

The book reads: "The python will swallow its prey in its entirety and not chew it at all." Then they can't move, spending six months digesting while sleeping. ”

So my mind flew into the jungle to explore, and finally drew my debut in colored crayons, my first work.

I showed my masterpiece to the grown-ups and asked them if they were afraid.

But they replied, "What's there to be afraid of in a hat?" ”

I don't draw a hat. I painted a python that was digesting an elephant. Then I drew the inside of the python so that adults could read it. They always need to explain.

But the adults suggested that I better stop drawing pythons, whether with an open belly or a closed belly, and that I should concentrate on geography, history, mathematics, and language. In this way, at the age of six, I gave up my ambition to become a great painter. The failure of works number one and number two discouraged me. Adults themselves don't understand anything, and they always have children to explain it to them, which makes me feel very tired.

So I had to choose another profession and learned to fly. I flew all over the world. Geography was really helpful to me. I can tell at a glance that China and Arizona. This is useful if you are trekking at night.

Chapter 7 (Excerpts)

"The flowers are weak. They are naïve. They will try to protect themselves. They think those thorns are terrible weapons..."

I didn't answer. Then I was thinking, "If I can't turn this screw, I'll knock it off with a hammer." The little prince interrupted my thoughts:

"You really think of flowers..."

"Don't bother! I don't think anything! I said it casually. I have serious things to do! ”

He looked at me in amazement.

"Serious business!"

He stared at me as I had a hammer in my hand and my fingers stained with black oil, bending over a machine that seemed ugly to him.

"You speak in a tone that resembles an adult!" This makes me feel a little ashamed. But he went on unforgivingly:

"You confuse everything... You've confused everything! ”

He was really, really angry. The golden curls swayed in the wind. ...... (With deletions here)

"Flowers have long thorns for millions of years. Sheep have also been eating flowers for millions of years. Isn't it serious to try to understand why a flower has toiled so hard to grow useless thorns? Isn't the war between sheep and flowers important? Isn't this more important and serious than the addition of the red-faced fat man? If I knew a flower that was unique in the world, and she only appeared on my planet, but one morning, a little sheep inadvertently bit her and destroyed her, I guess it doesn't matter at all! ”

His face turned red, and he continued, "If someone falls in love with a flower, there are billions of stars in the sky, and this flower grows on only one of them, which is enough to make him feel happy when he looks up at the night sky." He would tell himself, 'There are my flowers somewhere in the starry sky.' But if the sheep eats the flowers, it means to him that all the stars are suddenly extinguished! It doesn't matter at all! ”

He couldn't say any more. He couldn't cry. Night has fallen. I dropped the tool. I can't care less about hammers, screws, thirst, and death. On a certain planet, on a certain planet, on this planet, on Earth, there is a little prince who needs me to comfort! I hugged him tightly. I held him and slowly shook it. ...... (With deletions here)

I don't know what to say. I felt very embarrassed. I don't know how to get close and arrive... It's a mysterious place, this land of tears.

Chapter 10 (Excerpt)

"Come closer, let me see you clearly," said the king, who was proud to have finally become the king of someone.

The little prince looked around, trying to find a seat to sit down, but the whole planet was covered in luxurious mink robes. So he could only continue to stand; he yawned at being very tired.

"Yawning before the king is a violation of etiquette," said the monarch, "and I forbid you to yawn." ”

"I can't help it," said the little prince with great embarrassment, "I have come a long way, and I have not slept in the middle..."

Then the king said, "Then I will command you to yawn." I haven't seen anyone yawn in years. I'd love to watch people yawn. Hurry up! Hit a few more. That's an order. ”

"You scared me... I can't beat it..." the little prince blushed and said.

"Hmm! Well! The king replied, "Then I... I order you to fight sometimes, sometimes not..."

He stumbled and seemed angry.

Because what the king cared about most was that his authority was respected. He couldn't tolerate resistance. He was an absolute monarch. But he was also a very kind man, so his orders were always reasonable.

"If I order," he often said, "if I order a general to become a seabird and the general does not obey, it is not the general's fault." That's my fault. ”

"Can I sit down?" The little prince asked timidly.

"I order you to sit down," replied the king, and at the same time pulled his mink robe in a dignified manner.

Chapter 14 (Excerpts)

The fifth planet is very strange. It is the smallest of all the planets. There's just enough space there to accommodate a street lamp and a person with a palm lamp. The little prince could not explain what the use of street lamps and palm lamps was in the vastness of space, on a planet with neither houses nor inhabitants. But he said to himself:

"This man may be ridiculous. Yet he certainly did not have the absurdity of kings, vanities, merchants, and drinkers. At least his work makes sense. When he lights the street lamp, it is as if he brings new stars or flowers. When he turns off the street lamp, it is as if he let the star or the flower go to sleep. It's a beautiful career. This profession is useful because it is beautiful. ”

Upon arriving on the planet, he greeted the man with the lamp respectfully. "Hello. Why do you turn off the street lights? ”

"It's the rule," said the man with the lamp, "good morning. ”

"What rules?"

"The provision to turn off the lights. Good evening. ”

He lit the street lamp again.

"But why did you light it up again?"

"It's the rule," said the man who lit the lamp.

"I don't understand," said the little prince.

"There is no need to understand," said the lamp-bearer, "that a rule is a rule." Good morning. ”

He turned off the street lights. Then he wiped his forehead with a red handkerchief.

"I'm working hard in this job. Once upon a time it was more reasonable. I turn off the lights in the morning and turn on the lights at night. I can rest at other times of the day and sleep at other times of the night..."

"And later? Have the rules changed? ”

"The rules have not changed," said the lamp-bearer, "and that's the tragedy!" The planet is moving faster and faster every year, but the rules haven't changed! ”

"So what?" The little prince asked.

"So now it's going around every minute, and I don't even have a second to rest. I turn on and off once a minute! ”...... (With deletions here)

"You know what... I know there's a way to rest when you want to..."

"I've always wanted to rest," said the man with the lamp. Because people can be both loyal and lazy.

The little prince went on to say:

"Your planet is small, you can go around in a circle with just three steps. As long as you walk slow enough, the sun will always be on your head... You want the day to last as long as you want. ”

"It doesn't work for me," said the man with the lamp, "what I want is sleep." ”

"Then there is no way," said the little prince.

"There's no way," said the man with the lamp, "good morning." He turned off the streetlights.

"This fellow," thought the little prince as he continued his journey, "he will be laughed at by several others, and he will be laughed at by kings, vanity, drinkers, and businessmen. But in my opinion, he is the only one who is not absurd. Maybe it's because he's so busy but not for himself. ”

The little prince said, "What does 'domestication' mean?" ”

"It's something that is often forgotten," said the fox, "and it means 'creating relationships.'" ”

"Create relationships?"

"Yes," said the fox, "you are nothing more than a child to me, no different from thousands of other children. I don't need you. You don't need me either. To you, I am nothing more than a fox, no different from thousands of other foxes. But if you domesticate me, then we will need each other. You are unique to me, and I am unique to you..."... (With deletions here)

"If you domesticate me, my life will be full of sunshine." I will be able to discern a distinctive footstep. The sound of other people's footsteps will make me hide underground. And your footsteps are as beautiful as music and will get me out of the cave. ...... (with deletions here)"

"You can only understand what you have domesticated," said the fox, "and man no longer has time to know anything." They go to the store to buy ready-made whatever they need. But the shops don't sell friends, so humans can't make friends anymore. If you want to find a friend, please domesticate me! ”

"What should I do?" The little prince asked.

"You have to be very patient," said the fox, "first of all, you have to sit down a little farther away from me, like this, sitting on the grass. I'll sneak a look at you, and you won't talk. Language is the root of misunderstanding. But you have to sit a little closer to me every day..."

The next day the little prince returned.

"You'd better be at the same time every day," said the fox, "let's say you're scheduled to come at four o'clock in the afternoon, and by three o'clock I'll start to be happy." The closer the time gets, the happier I am. By four o'clock I would have been agitated and restless; I had discovered the price of happiness. But if you're at a different time every day, I don't know when to start expecting you... We need rituals. ”

"What is the ritual?" The little prince said.

"It is also something that is often forgotten," said the fox, "and it distinguishes one day from other days, and one moment different from others." For example, those hunters have a ritual. Every Thursday, they would dance with the girls in the village. So Thursday is a wonderful day! I could go for a walk in the vineyards. But if the hunters don't dance on fixed days and all the days are the same, then I don't have a holiday. So the little prince domesticated the fox. ...... (With deletions here)

The fox said, "This is my secret. It's simple: you can only see clearly if you look at things with your heart. Important things are invisible with the eye. ”

"Important things are invisible with the eye," the little prince followed, in order to remember the words.

"It's the time you give for your roses that makes your roses so important."

"It is exactly the time I have paid for my rose..." the little prince followed, in order to remember the words.

"Mankind has forgotten this truth," said the fox, "but you must not forget it." You are always responsible for what you domesticate. You are responsible for your rose..."

"I am responsible for my rose..." the little prince followed, in order to remember the words.

Chapter 24 (Excerpts)

"Water is also good for the mind..."

I don't understand what this sentence means, but I didn't say anything... I know it's best not to ask him questions.

He was tired. He sat down. I sat next to him. Moments later, he said:

"These stars are so beautiful, because there is a flower that we can't see..."

I replied with the word "of course, and looked silently at the undulating sand in the moonlight. "The desert is also beautiful," he added...

Indeed it is. I've always loved the desert. We sat on the dunes. We see nothing and hear nothing. But in the silence something is shining...

"The desert is so beautiful," said the little prince, "because it hides a well somewhere..."

I suddenly realized what the mysterious light in the sand meant, and I was amazed. When I was a child, I lived in an old house that was said to have treasure buried underneath it. Of course, no one has found it, and perhaps no one has ever looked for it. But it added a magical charm to the house. My house has a secret, buried in the depths of its soul...

"Yes," I said to the little prince, "whether it is a house or a star or a desert, they are all beautiful because of something invisible!" ”

"I'm glad," he said, "that your opinion is the same as my fox's. ”

The little prince fell asleep, so I took him in my arms and walked again. I was impressed. I felt like I was holding a fragile treasure. I don't think there's anything more fragile on earth than he is. In the moonlight, looking at his pale forehead, his closed eyes, and his curly hair fluttering in the wind, I thought to myself, "All I see is a shell." The most important thing is invisible..."

Seeing his mouth open slightly, as if smiling, I thought again: "What impressed me most about this sleeping little prince was his loyalty to a flower, and even when he was asleep, the appearance of the rose shone in his heart like a lamp..." I think he became more vulnerable. The light needs to be well protected, because a gust of wind can blow it out...

"In the future you will be able to look at the stars at night. My planet is too small to show you. That's better. To you, my star is just one of many. That way you see all the stars and you'll love it... They will become your friends. And ah, I'm going to give you a gift..." The little prince laughed.

"Little fellow, little fellow, I love listening to your laughter!"

"This is exactly the gift I want to give you... It's like the spring water we've drunk..."

"What do you mean by that?"

"Stars have different meanings for different people. For those who travel, the stars are the guides who point the way. For some, they are subtle lights. For scholars, they are the subject of research. For the man I met in business, they were wealth. But for all these people, the stars are silent. Only your stars are different from others..."

"When you look up at the night sky, because I live on a certain star, because I will laugh on a certain star, so to you it is like all the stars are laughing. Then you will have a laughing star! ”

He laughed again.

"When your grief subsides (and it always subsides), you will be happy to know me. You will always be my friend. You're going to want to laugh with me. Sometimes, you open windows for this reason... Your friends will be surprised to find you smiling at the stars. And then you say, 'Yeah, I want to laugh when I see the stars!' They'll think you're crazy. Then I'll make you fall foul..."

He laughed again. "It seems that what I have given you is not stars, but many bells that will laugh..."
