Iron is an essential trace element and is the main raw material for the synthesis of hemoglobin. The iron content in normal adults is 3-4.5 g, about 70% of which is present in hemoglobin, and the others are stored in the form of myoglobin, storage pools, unstable pools, tissue iron pools, transport pools, etc., in the form of water-soluble ferritin and non-aqueous hemosiderin[1].
In addition to common primary and secondary iron metabolism-related diseases, iron metabolism disorders may be related to a variety of diseases, such as cardiovascular disease, tumors, type 2 diabetes, kidney disease, etc., and iron metabolism related indicators are increasingly used in clinical diagnosis and treatment [2].

Indicators related to iron metabolism also include hemoglobin (without further elaboration) and lesser-known programs such as hepc, the main hormone that maintains iron metabolism balance, which negatively regulates intracellular iron transfer and limits iron release into the bloodstream, and can be used to identify types of anemia and treat iron overload disease[3]; soluble transferrin receptor (sTfR): transmembrane glycoprotein, which binds to transferrin to form a complex that transports iron into cells, reflecting the body's iron storage status and red blood cell production rate [4].
