The works of 39 contemporary masters | Guangqi Library

Liang Qichao believes in the "Introduction to Qing Dynasty Scholarship" that "since the Ming Dynasty Xu Guangqi, Li Zhizao and other widely translated arithmetic, astronomy, water conservancy books, for the Beginning of European nationality into China, pre-Qing scholarship, quite influenced by it." Liang Rengong regarded the academic trend of pursuing "Western studies" represented by Xu Guangqi (1562-1633) as the beginning of modern Chinese thought. Since Xu Guangqi has descended several generations of scholars, based on Chinese culture, inheriting academic traditions, committing to exchanges between China and the West, carrying out mutual learning among civilizations, creating a new situation in the Jiangnan region, and also opening up Shanghai as the center of modern east-west exchanges and academic publishing. In view of this, we uphold Xu Guangqi's spiritual heritage, carry forward his academic concept of practical application and open exchange, and create the "Guangqi Library".

The library is divided into Guangqi Essays, Guangqi Scholarship, Guangqi General Knowledge, Guangqi Pulpit, Guangqi Reader, Guangqi Translation Series, Guangqi Dictation, Guangqi Youth and other series. Wenku is committed to building a highland for the gathering of outstanding academic talents, a platform for the free exchange and collision of ideas, displaying the achievements of contemporary academic research, and vigorously introducing foreign academic masterpieces. In this way, we can not only draw nutrients from our own culture, but also enrich the connotation of Chinese culture with high-level overseas achievements.

The library emphasizes "practical application through the ages", that is, pays attention to the academic and practical nature of culture, which not only promotes the display of academic value, but also promotes the presentation of realistic care. The library takes scholarship as the first meaning, and the selected works should be profound in thought, novel in perspective, and profound in learning; at the same time, it also pays attention to practicality, and includes excellent works that are both academic and popular, research and teaching, inheritance and innovation. In this way, we pay attention to and respond to important issues and ideological propositions of the times, promote the creative transformation and innovative development of Chinese culture, and strive to create and present values, ideological culture and discourse systems with Chinese characteristics in exchanges and dialogues with foreign academics, and contribute to consolidating the foundation of cultural soft power.

The library promotes "East-West exchange", that is, pays attention to the introduction and output of culture, promotes two-way collision and communication, not only draws on Western culture, but also spreads the Chinese voice, and hopes to produce more brilliant spiritual results in exchanges. The library focuses on collecting Western ancient and modern wisdom classics and academic frontier achievements, and promotes their translation and publication in China; it is also committed to collecting outstanding monographs in the Chinese world to promote the improvement of their influence and exert greater cultural utility; in addition, it will also compile academic and ideological essays, lectures, interviews, etc. of scholars at home and abroad to construct a space for ideological practice and spiritual dialogue.

We know that whether it is to promote the practical application of culture or to promote the exchange of ideas and things, this library can only contribute to the power of Trickle. However, if it can become a delicate stream and merge into the trend of the times of the development and rejuvenation of Chinese culture, it is precisely the duty of adhering to the spirit of Guangqi and living up to the historical mission.

At the beginning of the library, there were many things to do, and the future was also a long way to go. The library covers many humanities disciplines such as literature, history, philosophy, art, religion, folklore, etc., and requires the cooperation of scholars from different discipline backgrounds. This library is a comprehensive author, translation, and compilation, and it also needs the help and coordination of multiple parties. In short, the smooth progress of the library cannot be achieved by relying on its own efforts alone, but it requires the full assistance of relevant institutions and scholars. I would like to teach you at The House of Genesis and express my sincere thanks.

The Qing Dynasty scholar Ruan Yuan once spoke highly of Xu Guangqi's contribution, "Since Matteo Ricci came from the east, he was the heir of his astronomical mathematics, and Guangqi was the deepest." ...... In recent times, zhen mingxi scholars will be called guangqi." We hope to build a solid platform for the cultural communication between the East and the West through the work of the "Guangqi Library", raise the peak of the contemporary Chinese academic plateau, explain China and understand the world in an academic way, and let reading and thinking pervade our spiritual homeland.
