In late November 2021, a joint archaeological team with the Department of Archaeology of Wuhan University as the main body advanced the archaeological excavation of the Neolithic ancient city of Fenghuangzui in Xiangyang, Hubei Province, about 5,000 years ago, in a mixture of mystery and surprise.
At the Loess Terrace, archaeologists are exploring the nature of the suspected high-grade building site from which eggshell black pottery cups, jade, and typical pottery have been unearthed, when an urn coffin buried in a special location has been discovered.
The secrets of the urn coffin may be revealed in a few days, and in the anatomical ditch designed to reveal the structure of the city wall and even the defensive function, archaeologists have not only found a moat around the city site and a channel running through the city, but also found a rare clay sculpture of a small animal - sheep in the silt.
At this time, the real question that archaeologists need to think about is: What groups of people from different ethnic origins existed in the ancient city of Fenghuangzui?
