Apple bragged! The M1 Ultra graphics GPU has only half the performance of the RTX 3090

According to foreign media macrumors, although Apple claimed and charted, according to benchmarks conducted by The Verge, the new M1 Ultra chip cannot surpass Nvidia's RTX 3090 in terms of GPU performance.

When the M1 Ultra launched, Apple shared a chart in which the new chip outperformed the "highest-end standalone GPU" in terms of "relative performance," but did not elaborate on the tests run to get those results. Apple showed that the M1 Ultra beat the RTX 3090 at a certain power level, but Apple didn't share the whole picture with its limited graphics.

Verge decided to use Geekbench 5 graphics testing to compare the M1 Ultra to the Nvidia RTX 3090, and unsurprisingly, when the chip was running at full power, it couldn't match Nvidia's chip. The Mac Studio beat the 16-core Mac Pro, but at about half the performance of the RTX 3090.

The M1 Ultra is impressive in other ways, and it's unclear why Apple is focusing on this particular benchmark because it's somewhat misleading to customers because it doesn't take into account the full range of Nvidia chips.

Apple's M1 Ultra is essentially two M1 Max chips connected together, and as The Verge highlights in its full Mac Studio review, Apple has managed to double the performance of the M1 Ultra, a remarkable feat unmatched by other chipmakers.
