Zhang Zhichao and Wang Guangchao are both from Linshu County, Linyi City, Shandong Province, Zhang Zhichao was born in May 1989, and Wang Guangchao was born in February 1988. In the third year of junior high school, Zhang Zhichao and Wang Guangchao were in the same class, and later the two were admitted to Linshu No. 2 Middle School, a key middle school in Linshu. During their freshman year of high school, the two were at the same table, and a few months later, the school conducted a placement test and the two were separated.
In the early morning of January 10, 2005, Xiaomei (pseudonym, not in the same class as Zhang Zhichao and Wang Guangchao), a first-year high school student in linshu no. 2 middle school campus, disappeared at the school. A month later, his body was found in a deactivated toilet on the third floor of the school building. On February 12, 2005, Zhang Zhichao and Wang Guangchao were taken away by the police for investigation. On March 6, 2006, the Linyi Intermediate People's Court sentenced Zhang Zhichao to life imprisonment and deprivation of political rights for life for rape in the first instance, and Wang Guangchao to three years' imprisonment, suspended for three years, for the crime of harboring.
In May 2017, the Supreme People's Court filed a case for review. On November 16 of the same year, the SPC found that Zhang Zhichao's case was "unclear facts and contradictions between the main evidence" and ordered the Shandong Provincial High Court to retry the case. After six extensions, the Shandong Provincial High Court held a closed hearing in the Zibo Intermediate Court on December 5, 2019 to retry the case. On January 13, 2020, the Shandong Provincial Higher People's Court publicly pronounced a verdict at the Zibo Intermediate People's Court: Zhang Zhichao and Wang Guangchao were not guilty, and Zhang Zhichao was released in court; when he was innocent, Wang Guangchao was actually detained for 390 days.

On the afternoon of June 1, 2020, Zhang Zhichao, who had been detained for more than 15 years (5,449 days), submitted an application for state compensation to the Linyi Intermediate People's Court, proposing a total of more than 7.88 million yuan in state compensation, of which more than 1.88 million yuan in compensation for personal freedom and 6 million yuan in mental consolation; and requested the original case-handling organ to publicly apologize and restore his reputation in CCTV, People's Daily, China Youth Daily and other media, so as to eliminate the responsible impact caused by the wrong judgment.
On the afternoon of June 18, 2020, Wang Guangchao's lawyer submitted an application for state compensation to the Linyi Intermediate People's Court by mail, requesting compensation of more than 3.07 million yuan, of which more than 130,000 yuan was paid for personal freedom; 2 million yuan for mental damage; 840,000 yuan in work remuneration caused by the delay in receiving good education due to poor professional skills; and 100,000 yuan in transportation expenses for appealing rights protection. In addition, Wang Guangchao also put forward a request from the Linyi Intermediate People's Court to publicly apologize, restore his reputation, and eliminate his influence in the national, provincial and municipal media.
On the morning of January 26, Li Xun, Zhang Zhichao's lawyer and lawyer at Beijing Dayu Law Firm, told The China Business Daily that on December 29, 2020, after consultation, the Linyi Intermediate People's Court decided to compensate Zhang Zhichao for 3.32 million yuan. "On the day the compensation agreement was signed, the relevant personnel of the court apologized to Zhang Zhichao, so Zhang Zhichao's original public apology in the media was no longer claimed."
After Wang Guangchao was freed, he has been driving trucks and transportation at a company in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province. On the morning of January 26, in an interview with a reporter from The China Business Daily, Wang Guangchao said that he had signed a compensation agreement with the Linyi Intermediate Court because he had signed an agreement with the court, and the amount of compensation was inconvenient to disclose. ”
When interviewed by the China Business Daily reporter before, Wang Guangchao once said that his parents were older, he did not have the ability to create a better life for his parents, and after getting compensation, he was ready to buy a (pension) insurance for his parents first, and then have a guarantee.
The Huashang Daily reporter later learned from Liu Zhimin, Wang Guangchao's lawyer and lawyer at Beijing Jingshi Law Firm, that on January 15, 2021, Wang Guangchao signed a compensation agreement with the Linyi Intermediate Court. After consultation, the Linyi Intermediate Court decided to compensate Wang Guangchao for 236,000 yuan. "On the day the agreement was signed, the court staff apologized to Wang Guangchao on the spot, and Wang Guangchao gave up other compensation requests such as the loss of work remuneration caused by the delay in receiving a good education and the low professional skills, compensation for the transportation expenses for defending rights, public apologies in the national media, restoration of reputation, and elimination of influence."

Zhang Zhichao's lawyer Li Xun told the China Business Daily reporter that in the current unjust case of rehabilitation, Zhang Zhichao was the youngest in prison. After gaining his freedom, Zhang Zhichao started everything from scratch and actively adapted to society, "he can play guitar, he can sing, and he is currently performing well in all aspects."

"Zhang Zhichao currently works in a restaurant in the south, and he said that he should learn to make a good dish and let everyone eat it." Li Xun introduced that Zhang Zhichao's best 15 years were spent in prison, adapting to the needs of society is a process, in order to live better in the future, he suggested that Zhang Zhichao learn how to run a restaurant, Zhang Zhichao accepted his suggestion, in early December 2020 into a restaurant in the south, while studying and working. "At present, he is learning from the most basic work of passing vegetables, cooking vegetables, and front desk, and the work is very hard."
Li Xun introduced that on December 29, 2020, when he met Zhang Zhichao in Linyi, he asked Zhang Zhichao how much money he made, and Zhang Zhichao said that he worked in a restaurant for nearly a month and earned more than a thousand yuan. "I asked him if it was difficult to make money, he said it was too difficult, I said no matter how difficult, you must stick to it, Zhang Zhichao agreed."
On the morning of January 26, Zhang Zhichao's mother confirmed the news of Zhang Zhichao's work to the China Business Daily reporter. She said that Zhichao worked very hard, going out every morning and returning home at about eleven o'clock in the evening, so he could not accept an interview with reporters, hoping that reporters would understand.
<h1>I don't want to start a family for the time being, and there was a female graduate student who wanted to fall in love with Zhang Zhichao</h1>
Zhang Zhichao is 32 years old this year, and he has reached the age of talking about marriage. Lawyer Li Xun said that after taking over Zhang Zhichao's case for 5 years, he and Zhang Zhichao had established a deep relationship. "I've been worrying about his marriage."
Li Xun said that after Zhang Zhichao was imprisoned, he began to introduce Zhang Luo to introduce his girlfriend to Zhang Zhichao, but Zhang Zhichao was always not careful. "He always said that you weren't reminding me in prison not to have a girlfriend after I got out of prison, but to learn a technique or craft first, so that I had to admit my mistake to him and ask him to forgive me."
"After I posted relevant information on the Internet, many girls sent me private messages and wanted to fall in love with Zhang Zhichao, some girls are really good, people are very good, and some are still graduate degrees." Li Xun said that Zhang Zhichao is now focused on work, and he always does not care much about other people introducing his girlfriend to him, and he comes down to persuade Zhang Zhichao to let him learn to go on a blind date.
