After six extensions, the Shandong Provincial High Court held a closed hearing in the Zibo Intermediate Court on December 5, 2019 to retry the case. The prosecutor who appeared in court held that the facts of the case were unclear and the evidence was insufficient, and suggested that the Shandong Higher People's Court change the verdict to Zhang Zhichao's innocence in accordance with the law. On January 13, 2020, the Shandong Provincial High People's Court publicly pronounced a verdict at the Zibo Intermediate People's Court: Zhang Zhichao was not guilty and released in court.

Zhang Zhichao: After being acquitted on January 13, 2020, I first stayed in Linshu's hometown for a few days, went to the grave to pay tribute to my father and other deceased relatives, and then my mother and I came to a southern city to visit my sister, because of the epidemic and other factors, we lived here. During the tense months of the epidemic, I stayed at home, and after the epidemic eased, I stayed at home most of the time, occasionally going out and around.
Linshu left me with painful memories, seeing those familiar scenes, it is easy to remember the previous events, the mood becomes bad, and I don't want to go back to that sad place in the future. China Business Daily: Now that you have fully adapted to your new life, how is your body recovering?
Zhang Zhichao: When I was in prison, everything had rules and rules, what time to get up every day, when to make the bed, what shape the quilt should be folded into, what time to eat, what time to go to work, etc., there are clear requirements. These have had a great impact on me, and now when I get up every day, I can't help but make the bed clean and the quilt is neatly folded, which is a habit that has been formed for many years.
During his time in prison, due to long-term bowing his head and bending down to work (sewing), resulting in deformation of the cervical and lumbar vertebrae, he has fainted twice after he was released from prison and has been taking medication. In the past few years of complaining, the pressure was very high, and I had neurasthenia, insomnia, and hair loss, and now I still have a bad rest every night and need to take medicine.
I haven't lived with my family for 15 years, and I feel very happy to be with my family every day after I come back. After spending a long time in prison, I feel that my personality is somewhat closed. After going out, I don't understand what others say, I don't know the things I say, and I don't feel very comfortable in my heart. On my birthday on May 29th, my mother and sister expressed their best wishes for me, and it is really happy to be with my family.
