The Beijing News previously reported that on January 10, 2005, a case of a middle school girl Gao Mou was killed after sexual assault in Linyi City, Shandong Province, and on the same day, a female body was found in a men's toilet at the branch of Linshu County No. 2 Middle School in Shandong Province, and the deceased was Gao Mou, a girl who disappeared a month ago.

The police investigation determined that Zhang Zhichao, a 16-year-old middle school student at the time, was suspected of committing a crime and arrested him. In March 2006, the Linyi Intermediate People's Court ruled in the first instance that Zhang Zhichao's rape was found guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment. At the same time, Zhang Zhichao's classmate Wang Guangchao was sentenced to 3 years in prison, suspended for 3 years, for the crime of harboring.

Since then, Zhang Zhichao's mother has continued to complain. On January 13 this year, the Shandong Provincial High Court pronounced a retrial verdict, declaring Zhang Zhichao innocent, and his co-defendant Wang Guangchao was also acquitted. The court's retrial judgment found that the original judgment was "unclear facts and insufficient evidence", that there was no objective evidence pointing to Zhang Zhichao's crime, and that there were contradictions between Zhang Zhichao's confession and witness testimony.

In June this year, Zhang Zhichao entrusted a lawyer to submit more than 7.889 million yuan in state compensation to the Shandong Provincial High Court.
