Taking advantage of the global media conference, Audi chose to launch the A6 Sportback e-tron and the A6 Avant e-tron concept car together. Both of them are products of the PPE platform, which to some extent predicts the direction of the Direction of Audi brand pure electric luxury models in the next few years. The PPE platform tries again
To be honest, the A6 Avant e-tron is not Audi's first attempt at the PPE pure electric platform, but it is at least one of the early models derived from this platform, and we can more or less glimpse the beginnings of this new platform.
According to the initial plan, the PPE platform focuses on luxury pure electric models, and the first products are C-class cars, and the A6 Avant e-tron released this time is among them.
Audi did not give too much detailed data on the A6 Avant e-tron, and it is currently known that its battery usable capacity is about 100kWh, the dual-motor version has a maximum output of 350kW/800N·m, and supports 270kW fast charging and e-Quattro four-wheel drive. Among them, the fast charging function can bring the A6 Avant e-tron 10 minutes to supplement the 300km endurance.
On some qualitative topics, Audi pointed out that the long wheelbase and short suspension will be the commonality of PPE platform models, which can better balance space and driving smoothness, which not only meets the actual needs of the A6 Avant e-tron, but also meets the actual needs of future D-class cars based on this platform.
Energy efficiency starts with shape
Like its energy-efficient, all-electric counterparts, Audi is very careful about the exterior details of the A6 Avant e-tron, and the positions that can be adjusted have been carefully modified. For example, its entire body does not have any sharp edges, but treats the air flow with a soft curved surface as much as possible, so as not to disturb the air and increase the driving resistance.
With careful adjustment, the A6 Avant e-tron has a drag coefficient of 0.24, which is only 0.02 higher than the sedan version. Considering that there is a larger low-pressure area behind it when driving, this achievement is invaluable. In other words, the A6 Avant e-tron's WLTP range should not be much less than the 700km compared to the hardware-consistent sedan version.
Of course, compromising with aerodynamics doesn't mean abandoning the sense of design, and the combination of short front suspension + 22-inch wheels + smooth lines still makes it look sporty. It is also worth noting that near the D-pillar, the large-angle tilt design reduces the rear air resistance to a certain extent (but also increases the workload of the car wash), and the spoiler above the D-pillar also adds a slight sense of visual extension.
Similar to other all-electric concept cars of Audi before it, the A6 Avant e-tron is also using virtual exterior mirrors, highlighting the sense of technology and slightly reducing resistance, killing two birds with one stone.
The "lamp factory" is still the same
It's both an Audi and a concept car, and you know for sure what I'm trying to say — yes, the A6 Avant e-tron is also a lighting player. Digital matrix LED headlights and digital OLED technology, which have previously been applied to some Audi models, have appeared on it and have been discovered for more functions.
For example, when the A6 Avant e-tron stops and charges, its digital matrix LED headlights can shoulder the screen projection function, turning the front wall into a large wall projection, which is convenient for users in the car to watch movies and play games. Objectively speaking, this design also seems to be a little helpful in protecting the eyes of passengers.
The OLED taillight also has a certain display function, but it seems to be used more for showmanship. Audi pointed out that users can customize the light show with 2D and 3D effects, even if it is just to show off, it can play new tricks.
It's also worth noting that the A6 Avant e-tron's lights also have the ability to communicate actively. For example, three high-resolution LED spotlights mounted on the side of it can send welcome or red flags to the owner or cyclists on both sides. With the help of intelligent networking, they can also communicate with more road users.
According to market plans, the mass production version of the A6 Avant e-tron will probably be launched around 2024. Whether from the shape of the concept car or Audi's statement in this media communication meeting, the mass production version of the A6 Avant e-tron should not be much different from what we see now.
