On March 15, according to media reports, lithium battery giant Samsung SDI is currently working on building the "industry's first" solid-state battery trial production line, which is named "S-Line".
It is reported that Samsung SDI has completed 1-2 prototype solid-state batteries, which use sulfide as electrolyte, have obtained patent certification, and entered the stage of technical verification.
Analysts pointed out that being able to establish a solid-state battery trial production line so quickly means that Samsung SDI has surpassed other manufacturers and broken through the technical bottleneck.
LG New Energy and SK On are also stepping up the development of all-solid-state batteries, but their target mass production time is 2030 and 2024, respectively. And Samsung is already much faster than the first two.
At present, lithium iron phosphate batteries and ternary batteries are the two main products in the battery industry, but there are huge problems with the safety and endurance of both.
In contrast, the output current of the all-solid-state battery is stable, the life is long, it has a certain degree of safety, and the endurance time is 2-3 times that of the traditional liquid lithium battery.
However, there are still certain problems with all-solid-state batteries. First, the power of the solid-state battery is only highly efficient in the laboratory environment, and once it leaves the laboratory, there will be a problem of reduced efficiency; second, there is no matching charging equipment on the market, and it is impossible to achieve fast charging.
Samsung is also currently working on solving these problems.
If all-solid-state batteries can be fully mass-produced, the battery industry will usher in a major innovation, and industries that need batteries such as electric vehicles will benefit greatly.
Samsung can establish a solid-state battery trial production line, which not only brings innovation to the battery industry, but also saves the previous embarrassing situation and saves the reputation of the company to a certain extent.
