A native of Gong County (now Gongyi City) in Henan Province, he graduated from the Department of Chinese of Wuhan University and graduated from the postgraduate class of the Department of Chinese Painting at the China Academy of Art. He once served as the president, editor and director of the editorial review committee of Hubei Fine Arts Publishing House.
