Enterprises give high salaries to recruit horses

After the Spring Festival holiday, art designer Zhang Feng was surprised when he opened the mailbox.

"After more than ten days of work, the headhunter recommended 6 job opportunities to me, all from the newly established 'Meta-Universe' game team." He was somewhat flattered by this.

In fact, although it has attracted much attention and expectation, there is still no recognized definition of "metaverse".

Pan Helin, co-director and researcher of the Digital Economy and Financial Innovation Research Center of Zhejiang University's International United Business School, believes that the "metacosm" can be understood as a virtual world parallel to the real world, and the two are closely integrated in the economic, social and identity systems, and people have their own virtual avatars in the metacosm, which can value digital assets.

Pan and Lin analysis said that the "metacosm" itself is not a new technology, but the extension, interaction, integration of digital twins, blockchain, artificial intelligence and other technologies, which is another breakthrough in known fields, and practitioners in these fields are the talents needed for the development of the future "metacosmity".

Some posts are gimmicky greater than substance

Shen Xiaofei also feels the same way in his work: "As an emerging industry, the 'meta-universe' does not have a practitioner in the true sense. Enterprises are feeling the stones to cross the river, either to save their own teams, or to dig up core technical personnel from traditional industries. In his view, this kind of talent has actually been in short supply, and it is not surprising that they are paid high salaries.

"At present, the demand for talents has not yet exploded, and the salary increase is within a reasonable range, which is only a continuation of the high salary in the Internet industry." As a senior HR of a head Internet company, Sun Ping (pseudonym) told reporters that recruitment is indeed increasing, but it is not as hot as rumored, and many companies are still waiting. The reason why it will create an atmosphere of "robbery war", in addition to the barbaric growth brought about by the beginning of the industry, there is no shortage of some companies in the "rubbing hot spots" hype.

A million-dollar annual salary job advertisement entered the reporter's field of vision.

In a job search software, a listed company released the recruitment information of "meta-universe partner", "meta-universe talent (returnee)" and "meta-universe talent (fresh graduate)", giving an annual salary range of 500,000 yuan to 1 million yuan, requiring "computer, software engineering and other majors, bachelor degree or above", and most of the job responsibilities are "combined with the company's product characteristics and technical advantages to develop and complete the meta-universe technology line, lead the team to carry out in-depth technology development and meta-universe related underlying technologies, core applications, Optimization of the 3D engine".

Although it seems to be a large-scale talent, the reporter found that as a company that mainly engages in mobile communication base station RF products, this company has been involved in hot fields such as graphene, polymer materials, OLED, etc., and most of them have returned home. Enterprise investigation data shows that in the first three quarters of 2021, the company lost more than 70 million yuan.

Workers need to be cautious in choosing a job

Bloomberg Industry Research predicts that the "metacosmic" related economy will reach a market size of $800 billion by 2024.

Pan and Lin analysis said that the deep reason for the rise of the "meta-universe" is that the development of the Internet has entered a bottleneck period, the traffic growth space has peaked, and the major giants are eager to break the restrictions and boost the mobile Internet into the next incremental market.

Sun Ping agrees, he feels that in the long run, the "metacosm" undoubtedly represents a development trend and will create certain jobs, but when this vision will come, there is currently uncertainty at the technical level and content level.

So, in the face of the "meta-universe" waiting for the virtual position, how should workers judge when choosing a job?

Pan and Lin believe that "at this stage, the demand for technical talents in the industry is far greater than that of content talents. If the worker has excellent technical ability, he can try it. For non-technical talents, although the UGC (User-Generated Content) promoted by the metaverse will lower the threshold of content production, its development is still lagging behind, so it may not be a good choice to get involved in the 'metaverse' now. ”

Sun Ping suggested that workers should plan according to their own actual situation under the premise of recognizing the market situation, and cannot blindly switch runways just because they value the heat of the "meta-universe". In addition to considering salary when selecting a job, we should pay more attention to whether the job portrait is clear, whether the company has done related projects, how the performance is, and those companies that have passed the market test will have a higher "survival" of the project.
