Eckhart and Yuta
Hello everyone! Today I would like to introduce the statue "Aikhart and Yta" in the west hall of the main church of Naumburg in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, created in 1250 AD.
The Kingdom of Saxony, roughly located in the present-day Netherlands, western Germany, Switzerland and Austria, was popular in Germany in the 13th century due to its convenient geographical location, the Gothic art of French origin and the pursuit of elegance and naturalism.
Eckhart and Yuta were an aristocratic couple living in Naumburg in the 11th century, and their life-size statues wore fashion popular in the 13th century, which was created by a sculptor who only signed "Master Naumburg".
This dressed statue is a work of the realist style that prevailed in the 13th century. Not only that, but the lifelike image of the duo is likely to be the true appearance of a man and a woman who lived in the era of the sculptor.
Eckhart was carved into a burly middle-aged man with large curly hair, wrinkles and a multi-layered chin, permeated with a naturally drooping robe, and could be felt as he placed the center of gravity of his body on his left leg, holding a shield sword in one hand and a cloak on his left shoulder in the other.
Yuta, on the other hand, pressed the cloak she had lifted, and looked in a certain direction with her husband, and time instantly stopped at her beautiful and dignified appearance.
The representation of the right arm under The Utah cloak by the Master Naumburg is a stunning creation that best evokes an association of authentic poses among all the statues of the Middle Ages.
