Under his leadership, the locals once again wore the Buyi national costumes

Editor's Note:

The photos saved in the phone are unforgettable moments.

Those moments witnessed the footsteps of people's congress deputies and CPPCC members in performing their duties, feelings for the people, changed your and my lives, and let us move towards a better future.

In 5 years, the original intention of performing duties remains unchanged. On the occasion of the two sessions of the National People's Congress in 2022, let us look at their performance answer sheets and listen to their stories of performing their duties through the photos in the mobile phone photo album of NPC deputies and CPPCC members.

【Character Business Card】Wei Bo: Deputy to the National People's Congress, head of Jiangxi Pobuyi Pure Handmade Weixian Clothing Processing Factory in Pu'an County, Guizhou Province

Wei Bo himself was not good at weaving and sewing clothes, but he used the embroidery processing industry of Buyi ethnic costumes to drive villagers out of poverty.

In 2013, he opened the first handmade Buyi clothing processing factory in Pu'an County.

"It is my greatest pride to awaken the traditional national skills that are on the verge of being lost and recognized by more and more young people." On March 7 this year, Weibo showed reporters 2 pictures and shared his story with the Buyi embroidery.

【Shot 1】The road to hard work

Under his leadership, the locals once again wore the Buyi national costumes

In this photo taken in 2014, Wei Bo displays the Buyi embroidery pieces he has sought out in his workshop.

In 2005, Wei Boxin, who was working outside the country, decided to return to his hometown of Jiangxi Po Town, Pu'an County, Qianxian Prefecture, to make a career. After returning to his hometown, Wei Bo started a business several times, but all of them ended in failure.

By chance, Wei Bo met the local girl Wang Weixian, and the two became a family. Wang Weixian is a Buyi embroidery lady and the inheritor of the buyi ethnic costumes of the national intangible cultural heritage.

Looking at the Buyi embroidery work that his wife's family was engaged in, Wei Bo thought, Isn't this exactly the entrepreneurial project he is looking for? In 2013, Weibo borrowed 120,000 yuan from the bank and co-founded the Buyi Clothing Plus Workshop with his wife, and his entrepreneurial path also ushered in a turning point.

In 2014, he moved the workshop from the town to his own home and asked some local skilled women to help. In 2016, the workshop expanded into a processing plant and hired 7 embroidery girls on a regular basis. In 2017, the processing plant adopted the practice of sending embroidery abroad, driving more than 300 "embroidery girls" to process at home.

Today, the Buyi clothing processing factory and the Buyi Family Cooperative founded by him and his wife have cumulatively driven more than 600 people in the surrounding villages to increase employment and income, and the annual dividends of members and the income of workers total more than 5 million yuan.

【Lens 2】Adding fresh blood to traditional skills

Under his leadership, the locals once again wore the Buyi national costumes

The photo was taken in 2020. At that time, Yang Changding, a reporter of this network, went to Pu'an County to interview Wei Bo, and in his clothing processing factory, he happened to see Wei Bo and his wife Wang Weixian discussing the patterns and colors of embroidery.

Yang Changding quickly pressed the shutter, leaving the photo inadvertently behind by the two. After the interview, Weibo also kept the photo in his mobile phone photo album.

Although Wei Bo does not know embroidery, he is good at pattern design, and he always studies with his wife every time he wants to develop a new product. He often pondered the characteristics of popular clothing and cleverly integrated elements of Buyi culture into them.

Since opening an embroidery workshop in 2013, Weibo has been thinking about how to innovate, combining Buyi embroidery with modern design. Today, in addition to Buyi clothing and embroidered shoes, the products of The Weibo Factory also include embroidered handbags, embroidered pillows, and embroidered coasters.

Gradually, the Buyi embroidery products "caught fire" in the local area. Some square dance teams' uniforms were required to be customized from Weibo's factory, and most of the Buyi couples also changed their wedding dresses to Buyi dresses. According to Weibo, 90% of the Buyi couples in the town have wedding dresses customized in his factory.

"A set of Buyi dresses for marriage, the price ranges from 800 yuan to 1880 yuan." Wei Bo said that the Buyi culture is rooted in people's hearts, when someone picks up, more and more people are infected, this is the power of national culture.

"There are many ways of embroidery of the Buyi people, including flat embroidery, thread embroidery, crepe embroidery, Su embroidery and so on." Mr. Wei said the traditional skill was on the verge of being lost in the region, and many young people didn't even know it.

At the two sessions of the National People's Congress in 2018, Wei Bo once said that the relocation of poverty alleviation allowed the people to move out of the mountains, but also to move the national culture out of the mountains.

Under his influence, more and more people are involved in the Buyi clothing processing industry, and now more than 30 embroidery workshops have been opened in the local area. Reawakening the traditional skills that are about to be lost and returning the Buyi embroidery costumes to the mainstream position is the most fulfilling thing that Wei Bo has done in many years of entrepreneurship.

The story of Weibo and Buyi embroidery is still being written...

Since serving as a deputy to the National People's Congress, Wei Bo has focused on how to protect and inherit traditional ethnic culture. At this year's two sessions, he brought 4 suggestions related to rural revitalization and tea industry.
