Interview 丨 Du Chun: At the beginning, I did not play this role

"We went to fight for it ourselves (in 'Eight Hundred)." At that time, Brother Tiger (director Guan Hu) told us that this drama cycle is very long, and it is a large group of plays, and the actors who can come have to give up a lot of things. At the beginning, I did not play this role, I was able to play the role of Xie Jinyuan, or I still had a fate, which could not be clearly explained in one or two sentences. A few days ago, actor Du Chun was interviewed by the surging news reporter in Beijing, and he played Xie Jinyuan who led the "eight hundred heroes" to the Sihang warehouse in the movie "Eight Hundred".

Stills from "Eight Hundred", Du Chun played Xie Jinyuan. The stills in this article were all taken by Bai Xiaoyan.

Du Chun said that he had been in contact with director Guan Hu for a long time, "During the preparation period, he (Guan Hu) set a military rule for us: don't get sick, 'From the body to the heart, that breath must be resisted.'" It wasn't until the movie was about to start that someone suddenly told me to play Captain Xie. yes?! I'm all ignorant. ”

"Xie Jinyuan's abandonment of Wen Congwu made me feel deeply"

The body is the capital of the revolution, and after the establishment of the year, Du Chun is practicing this law of never quitting. On his personal Microblog, he often posted hard photos of his six solid abs. On a certain program, Du Chun first easily completed the dumbbell bird with 25 kilograms of hands, and then performed a male guest on the left and right sides, weighing 140 kilograms of hard pulling, still the face did not change color, the gas did not grow. Although he has also laughed at himself where to go, where to practice, "filming is about to become a side business", but in an interview with a bodybuilding magazine after the release of the movie "The History of the Demise of Romanticism", he said his heart, "I think that the tough guy is tough, it is exactly what male artists of my age are missing in the domestic market now, and then I want to lean on this aspect." ”

In "The History of the Demise of Romanticism", Du Chun is the "coachman" next to the gangster played by Ge You, but in fact, he is an agent installed by the military commander next to the latter, who is both a subordinate and a monitor. At the end of the film, he showed himself in a military uniform and staged a hoe rape scene in the Philippine American prisoner-of-war camp. I can't remember the first time he played the heroic military image, but the male protagonist Jiang Bo played by Du Chun in the 2008 remake of "Eighteen Years of the Enemy Camp" is still impressive. In that play, Jiang Bo's character background is a secret member of the Chinese Communist Party in the Whampoa Military Academy, and this time he plays Xie Jinyuan, who is a Huangpu IV student.

"I played Jiang Bo's role very maturely, but at that time I was actually too young. Jiang Bo is a lurking agent who must have a natural disguise, perhaps because the producer saw the good and evil side of me. Du Chun said that he also missed the play, "nostalgic for the creative atmosphere at that time, everyone really cared about how to tell a story well, and paid more attention to the content of the play itself." The original TV series of the same name, "Eighteen Years of the Enemy Camp", was broadcast on CCTV during the Spring Festival of 1981, and Du Chun was born in that year.

This temperament, which is also good and evil, may also impress Guan Hu, the director of "Eight Hundred". It is said that the styling director Li Zhou originally designed Xie Jinyuan's style according to Liang Chaowei's image, and later made corresponding adjustments because the role candidates also considered Andy Lau and Zhang Zhen, and du Chun was not finally determined until the start of filming.

In an exclusive interview with a surging reporter, Guan Hu once said that xie Jinyuan's character is particularly difficult to play, "He is not only the leader of this group of defenders, but also a soldier who can clap people's shoulders and fight together." What I asked of Du Chun was to show a nervous fatigue. In Du Chun's view, the "nervous fatigue" was the melancholy behind Xie Jinyuan's resolute gaze.

"Xie Jinyuan is a real figure in history, and he is also the most recorded and recorded person among the eight hundred heroes, so I must do my homework first." After claiming the role, Du Chun made a lot of preparations, "At that time, I was deeply touched by the fact that Xie Jinyuan studied literature at National Guangdong University (now Sun Yat-sen University) when he was young, that is, he felt that China at that time was poor and weak and was bullied, ignited his patriotic enthusiasm, abandoned his literature and applied for the Whampoa Military Academy from Wu, and then he participated in the Northern Expedition. He is a cultured patriot with rich experience in military struggle. ”

Because Xie Jinyuan was a Confucian general who threw pens from Rong, "he wrote well, so I also had to find a master to practice brush writing." Du Chun said.

Stills of "Eight Hundred", Xie Jinyuan wrote a family letter

In the film, in the interval between battles, "Xiao Hubei" (Zhang Junyi) gives Xie Jinyuan a research ink, and Xie Jinyuanduan sits in front of the case to write a home letter to his wife Ling Weicheng, "Qiao Ying's wife Aijian: Within a day, he will lead his troops into Husong to participate in the war, and specially repair the inch note to comfort the distant thoughts." Half of the walls of my divine state are eroded by the sun, the calamity of the subjugation of the country and the extinction of the species, the hair of others, me, not paying attention, the descendants have no kind of things. To kill the enemy for the country is to be a revolutionary soldier Su Zhiye; and a soldier should not have a family, I have it now, and the door is weak, the relatives are rare, my heart is not iron, I can be carefree! But where the duty lies, for the country when can not take care of the family also ..."

Military training "opens a small stove" and uses a gun as if it were on the body

Because this time to play a professional soldier, almost all the crew members carried out "combat readiness mobilization" before filming. "The more than four hundred people stationed at the Sihang Warehouse were the elite of the Eighty-eighth Division, which fought from beginning to end during the entire Battle of Songhu, and this group of fighters stood out to the end. They were professionally trained soldiers, german mechanics who had been trained by German instructors. Of course, we play such a soldier to go through military training in advance, and the scattered soldiers played by Brother Qianyuan (Wang Qianyuan) and Brother Wu (Jiang Wu) may not need so much military training relatively speaking. Brother Tiger (Guan Hu) asked us to stand in a row, who is a professionally trained professional soldier and who is a security regiment, all of which can be recognized by ordinary audiences at a glance. Du Chun recalled.

Because he played the chief officer of the garrison, Du Chun opened a "small stove" single training, "I probably trained for more than a week, and the crew invited a special military coach to train me one-on-one." I think this is related to the role, Xie Jinyuan is the backbone of the eight hundred heroes, is their commander, on the one hand, love soldiers like sons, on the other hand, and subordinates still have to maintain a little sense of distance. The military instructor mainly trained me to use the gun, in the film I only used the rifle in about two scenes, once the gun was started, it had to be like growing on the body (skilled), the end gun, the jam gun, (bullet) how to load, unload, this is a whole set of actions, but also according to the code of that era to train. ”

Speaking of the corresponding plot in the movie, the scene of the retreat rushing bridge was filmed for fifteen days, and the brigade also stayed up for fifteen nights, "all the 'big night' (all night filming), it was really a huge workload, photography, explosion points, people and people have to talk about cooperation, a person who makes a mistake has to do it again." In the film, Xie Jinyuan took the lead and led the way to rush the bridge," he turned back to carry a wounded soldier, I ran several times, and my legs were soft. ”

Tired of it, the peers on the set will still joke between each other and enliven the atmosphere. Du Chun said that in order to show Xie Jinyuan's exhaustion of not closing his eyes for four days and four nights, the crew specially imported a pair of special effects with blood streaks from the United Kingdom, "It is not the same as the contact lenses that are usually worn, it is full pupil coverage and very thick, to be honest, it is very uncomfortable after wearing it, wearing two hours of dizziness, flowers in front of the eyes, close to see things is OK, from a distance to see a blur." During the filming, I had to wear it for more than ten hours, and the eyes hurt very much. Later, Ou Hao (who played the Dragon Boat Festival) heard about it, and also found a director to get a pair, and took it off once, 'No, I can't act when I wear it.'" ’”

"But my other makeup is fine." Every day before the shooting, I put on makeup for 40 minutes and went to just 'get dirty'. The group of people who played the scattered soldiers and braves were miserable, and it took four or five hours to move, and the small details on their faces, such as Wu Ge (Jiang Wu) had penetrating wounds on his face. The makeup artist made a special spray gun, they had to sit there after makeup, and the last process was to 'boo' the face and spray a face of dirt. Du Chun smiled.

On the set of "Eight Hundred", it was not only people who suffered, in that scene, Xie Jinyuan and the Japanese invading army field commander Konoe Hon (played by Nakazumi Hero) rode on a war horse, and the scene of the confrontation and negotiation in front of the two armies was filmed for four consecutive days, "I have become accustomed to that state, but the white horse is also 'required' to be tattooed, the horse's eyes cannot blink, and the momentum must be the same as Xie Jinyuan, and cannot lose to the other side." But we can't force it, we should eat it, we should chew it, we can only find the one that is in the best condition. ”

"Some of the lines are a little 'implicit' and more weighty"

In addition to the appearance of the role, words and deeds will eventually fall into a sentence of "I will have no self". For Du Chun, a northerner, Xie Jinyuan's mouth and Cantonese Mandarin in "Eight Hundred" this time really embarrassed him. "The crew is like a 'dialect conference', such as Qianyuan Ge (Wang Qianyuan) and Yu Haolei, who all speak dialects in their plays, and the crew is also equipped with dialect teachers." In the film, whether Xie Jinyuan speaks dialect or Mandarin, we discussed for a long time, and finally decided to speak Cantonese Mandarin. Chief Xie is from Meizhou, Guangdong Province, and has a bit of a Hakka accent. And most of my plays are pre-war mobilization, speaking in front of hundreds of people, if purely in dialect, people may not understand. At the beginning, I first found a Cantonese friend, repeated my lines in Cantonese, recorded them into audio, and listened to them repeatedly before I entered the group. ”

Du Chun said to himself that if he always thinks about the accent, it will affect the performance, "It has not become your muscle memory." Before filming the scene to be dubbed, I invited a Boy from Guangdong to make Kung Fu tea every day in the tea house downstairs of my house, looking for it word by word (pitch). In the later dubbing stage, for the sake of safety, the crew still invited Zhang Songwen, an actor from the Hakka family in Guangdong, "Songwen accompanied me all day to pick pronunciation, and he gave me a lot of advice." For example, the first time I matched, my accent was slightly heavier, he felt that this was particularly deliberate, the second time the match was more ordinary, there were some necessary pronunciation words to use dialect. In the scene where the flag is raised on the roof of the Sihang warehouse in the movie, Du Chun has a line, "The northeast has fallen, and the north china has fallen, but Shanghai is still there." "Before The Song Wen came, the word 'fall' was pronounced 'lun heng' entirely in Cantonese, so he suggested that it should not be used and changed back to Mandarin."

Now looking back at the role, Du Chun believes that Xie Jinyuan's biggest role in the film is to boost morale. "So when I encountered the scene of speech agitation, I found it difficult to act. It's not like playing with people, there's an opponent who communicates directly with you emotionally, and you come and go. I am pure this, as long as everyone shuts up as soon as they speak, hundreds of people look at you in unison. If you overdo it, you will have a feeling of shouting slogans. If the emotions do not go up, they will feel that it is not enough. "This degree is indeed quite difficult to take, Guan Hu definitely does not like to shout slogan-style performances," we both talked, Brother Tiger said that some lines are slightly implicit, a little fierce, others will sound more heartfelt, more weighty. For example, there is a line in it, 'Now our nation is sick, let others bully.' Ask ourselves if we're doing a good enough job? In fact, when people are really angry, they don't necessarily have to tear their hearts and lungs, but the more calm they are, and they have to go with the real emotional changes of the characters. Xie Jinyuan had a basis point for all his emotions: from the day he entered the Sihang Warehouse, he had never thought of going out of here alive. ”

"Eight Hundred" has a lot to taste

On August 14, "Eight Hundred" cloud premiered, and Du Chun watched the movie again at the scene. "In fact, I have also watched Sam Mendes's "1917" in the past two days, and the real selling point of that movie is still in technology, the so-called one-shot to the end, of course, the characters in it also have arcs, but compared with "Eight Hundred", the efforts of those of us who really want to do is to hit the hearts of the audience." Talking about his own movie-watching experience, Du Chun believes that the whole play of "Eight Hundred" is full of grenades from Chen Shusheng, played by Zheng Kai, jumping down from the upper floor and ending up with the enemy, until the end is all climax. "Brother Tiger has a characteristic of filming, the ending is always closed in places you did not expect, simply and neatly without dragging mud and water. "Eight Hundred" according to the war drama, I think it should be regarded as unprecedented in China. It has a lot to remember, heaven and hell across the river, is my line, 'Live, live is victory.' It's interesting to think about. ”

Interview 丨 Du Chun: At the beginning, I did not play this role

On August 22, the box office of "Eight Hundred" broke through 400 million yuan

"In fact, when you play the Predator, you should be considered a family heirloom." Mr. Lingzun Du Zhiguo has starred in many military figures, including in the 1990s movie "The July 7 Incident", he played He Jifeng and was also a patriotic general. Have your father and son ever communicated about this? At the end of the interview, the reporter threw the question to Du Chun.

"I really didn't have time to talk to my dad, he watched the movie on demand, but after all the interviews, I didn't have time to talk to him." My father is a soldier, he has innate conditions, before in the Tianjin Garrison District is to be an armed policeman, so (acting as a soldier) must have more personal experience than me. When I was a kid, he wanted me to be a soldier, and before I went to college, he wanted me to be a soldier for a year (laughs). Today we are over from the interview, and I will definitely call him and ask him how he feels about watching the movie. In the future, if I have a military role, I will definitely continue to play. ”

The next day, Du Chun turned to his father to reply to a message from him - "After I finished watching "Eight Hundred", I also liked, shocked, and moved like many viewers, this is a very good movie." Xiao Chun will also often exchange interesting stories with me about the crew, and it is rare to work in such a strong artistic atmosphere. At the same time, this time I have the honor to play the national hero Xie Jinyuan, which is his supreme glory! ”
