In daily life, I can always see many people who love cleanliness, especially women. They always keep their homes in order, the floor, table, kitchen and even the toilet are spotless, and they never feel bothered when doing these tedious cleaning tasks, but enjoy it, in general, we think that people who love cleanliness too much are psychologically handicapped, and this psychological disorder is called cleanliness.

However, cleanliness has never been a patent for women, and some men with cleanliness are not inferior to women when they are clean. In the ancient Yuan Dynasty of the mainland, there was such a painter who loved to be clean enough to bathe the plane trees in his yard and even lay goose feathers on the hut, because of this psychological obstacle, he never married a wife in his life, and even because of his love of cleanliness, he brought the disaster of killing.

In the early stage, it is advantageous to cultivate cleanliness

The painter we are talking about with a serious cleanliness fetish is Ni Zhan, I believe that many people know his name, or although they do not know it, they have at least heard of this person, but everyone may not know much about his habits of loving cleanliness.

In the Yuan Dynasty, a painter with a cleanliness habit, bathed the sycamore, laid goose feathers on the toilet, and did not marry for life because of the serious cleanliness

Ni Zhan's early life was very rich and prosperous, which is one of the reasons why he developed a clean habit. His grandfather was a well-known rich merchant in the township, his father died very early, there were three Ni Zhan brothers, his brother was a Taoist monk, but not an ordinary Taoist monk, but a high-level figure, very famous. In the Yuan Dynasty, Taoism prevailed, so as a high-ranking Taoist leader, Ni Zhan's eldest brother had a very high status, and for this reason, there would be no suffering from servitude, and there was no need to plunge into the official field, and the income was not cheap, and it was very easy.

It is precisely because of the care of a family like the eldest brother that Ni Zhan's early life can be said to be extremely comfortable, and there is nothing for him to worry about. His brother invited other Taoist monks to serve as tutors for him, and from an early age he was clean and proud. Ni Zhan never participated in the affairs of the family, did not pay attention to production, immersed himself in calligraphy, poetry, song and painting all day long, and never became an official all his life.

Since this time, Ni Zhan has begun to pay attention to the comfort and cleanliness of life, and his toiletries such as towels have special classifications, and washed after use, washing several times a day. The trees in the house are also required to be cleaned by the next person. The family had thousands of books, and he had to sort out each one himself. It is precisely because of the abundance of family resources that Ni Zhan has been exposed to many precious ancient books since he was a child. He studied these calligraphy and poetry intently, and he was unable to extricate himself from them all day long, and the strengths of the Bo family laid a solid foundation for his subsequent paintings.

The family road is in the middle, and the cleanliness does not change

But good times did not always favor him, and in 1328, Ni Zhan's brother died suddenly of illness. After that, Ni Zhan's mother and the teacher who had been accompanying him also died, and from then on, Ni Zhan lost the privileges that his brother had in his lifetime, and his life gradually became embarrassing, and he himself was in pain.

However, in the next twenty years, it was a period of rapid development of Ni Zhan's painting technique. In the past twenty years, he has made friends with many monks and famous painters at that time, and exchanged and discussed together, and Ni Zhan even regarded himself as a monk. Although Ni Zhan's life at this time was not as good as before, as the saying goes: "The skinny camel is bigger than the horse", besides, the cleanliness habits cultivated over decades cannot be changed all at once.

Ni Zhan continued his previous cleanliness habits, and the places where he went to the toilet were very different from those used by ordinary people. His hut was not underground, but built in the air, made of special scented wood. In order not to smell the odor, he even covered the entire toilet with goose feathers, so that the thick goose feathers could cover up the smell in the toilet.

And his cleanliness is more than that, Ni Zhan usually uses pen, ink and paper to clean. As we mentioned earlier, when he was at home, he even had to clean up the trees, and this is still the case now. There were a lot of plane trees planted in his yard, and Ni Zhan would let people wash them many times a day to make sure that there were no impurities on them.

Because of this habit of life, Ni Zhan has offended many people and has almost no friends. Once, a friend came to visit, but he was very afraid that his friend was not clean, so he could not sleep at night, so the friend coughed in the middle of the night, and Ni Zhan heard it and asked the maid to look for the yard every other day, just to see if the friend had spit. What can a servant do? The friend just coughed a little, the maid had no choice, he could only pretend that there was something dirty, and casually found a leaf, Ni Zhan was disgusted after seeing it, and actually let the maid send this leaf three miles away!

Later life leads to disasters

Not only that, because Ni Zhan loved to be clean too much, he never went to places like the Qinglou brothel. Once, he fell in love with a handsome man and wanted to take him home for the night. But when he got home, he felt that the singer was not clean, so he let her go to the bath, and as a result, he washed it over and over again, and he was still not satisfied, and finally had to give up. For these reasons, he also never married.

There is also a rumor that when he was imprisoned for some reason in his later years, the jailer brought a meal, he refused to eat, asked the reason, Ni Zhan said that he was afraid that there was something dirty inside. The jailer was furious, and in order to punish him, he tied him to the toilet in the big prison, which could be regarded as making him suffer a lot.

There are different theories about Ni Zhan's death in his later years. One theory is that he was in poor health in his later years, contracted wind and cold, and died while he was in love with relatives. There is also another theory, Ni Zhan, because he hated being an official and loved cleanliness too much, angered the emperor at that time, Zhu Yuanzhang. Zhu Yuanzhang stabbed everywhere, only to catch Ni Zhan's handle, and then ordered someone to throw Ni Zhan into the dung pit and drown. There is no clear corroboration to prove the second statement, but judging from the usual behavior of our protagonist, it is not impossible to die in this way.

epilogue

Loving cleanliness is everyone's right, and there is nothing wrong with it. However, there must be a limit to everything, and if it exceeds a certain limit, it is abnormal, that is, it is sick. This is the case with Ni Zhan, who loves cleanliness too much, and this morbid cleanliness habit has made him offend too many people in his life, and he has few friends; and even in the end, he has brought him the disaster of killing, which is really a lesson for us.

In the Yuan Dynasty, a painter with a cleanliness habit, bathed the sycamore, laid goose feathers on the toilet, and did not marry for life because of the serious cleanliness

We have to learn from this that it is not good, at least unhealthy, to pay no attention to hygiene at all. But if love is clean enough to ignore the normal phenomena in life, then you have to pay more energy, which is simply not desirable in the current fast-paced state of life.
