To this day, I wonder too. I didn't even know a single Chinese character, and I actually read "Journey to the West" with relish. When I said it, no one believed that when I was a child, I could read "Journey to the West", and even I was confused about it, but it was true.
I think it should be because there are more hieroglyphs in the traditional characters in the book, and although I know nothing about the plot story in the book, I even know nothing, but I understand its artistic conception. At this point, we have to thank the ancestor Cangjie who made us words.

After the summer vacation, I went to elementary school. The eldest brother who studied in other places knew that I liked to read, and in that golden autumn, he brought me a book called "The Story of a Repeat Student". It was the first book I had in my life, and somehow I lost it to my neighbor's sister. She also likes to read, and after reading the book, she took it for herself. I read greedily, not sparing even a single word, obsessed with the words that beat like elves on the paper, and fell into it, unable to extricate myself.
In the evening, when I had not yet completed my homework, I threw down the pen in my hand, crouched on the threshold, and quietly listened to Mr. Shan Tianfang's commentaries - "Yang Jiajian", "Yue FeiChuan", "Water Margin" and so on. My mother urged me several times - "homework", "dinner", I agreed with my mouth, but I refused to move half a step under my feet. I sympathized with and pitied the Yang family's murder of the Full Gate Loyal Martyrs, and resented the treacherous and infidelity of Pan Renmei and Pang Wen; I was filled with righteous indignation at Yue Fei's encounter, and I was eager to pluck Qin Juniper's skin and cramp; I sighed at the magnificent peasant uprising, and I was heartbroken by the unfortunate ending and tragic end of the Water Margin hero.
Now that I think about it, these popular commentaries and stories have been deeply imprinted in my mind, they have influenced my life, laid a good foundation for the shaping of my character and quality, and benefited me for life.
When I was in junior high school, my eldest brother had already graduated from college, he entered the county party committee, I don't know where he borrowed a set of "Chronicles of the Eastern Zhou Dynasties", I wanted to see, but he refused, he was afraid of affecting my studies. On Sunday, my mother and brothers went to work in the fields, and they left me at home to review my homework, but I stayed at home, hungry and immersed in the strife of the nations of the Eastern Zhou Dynasty. Moving historical stories have not only increased my knowledge, but also given me wisdom. It was also on those Sundays that I read from my eldest brother Edgar Snow's Journey to the West ("The Red Star Shines on China") and luo Guanzhong's "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" and other popular works, but my academic performance in the class was still at the top of the list.
In high school, I started secretly buying books. At that time, the campus was popular with mr. Jin Yong and Mr. Liang Yusheng's martial arts novels, and near the winter vacation, I bought several copies of Mr. Liang's novels from the bookstore - a set of "Seven Swords Under the Heavenly Mountain" and a set of "The Legend of the White-Haired Witch", ready to eat a big meal and a good meal. As a result, the book was confiscated by the eldest brother, who was afraid of affecting my studies.
Later, I borrowed a copy of "Dream of the Red Chamber" from my classmates, and every afternoon when I was doing extracurricular activities, I would take more than an hour to read it for a while. I have not finished reading a copy of "Dream of the Red Chamber", but I have already felt that my academic performance is declining sharply, and since then, I have no longer occupied my study time for extracurricular reading.
I really read it with my heart, but it was after graduating from college. At that time, I went to work at a township education committee, and there was a small library in the unit, and from there I read many classic books. "Three Words" and "Two Beats" have given me many inspirations in life; "Journey to the West" and "Water Margin" have made me understand the grandeur of the peasant movement; "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" and "Sun Tzu's Art of War" have increased my strategy and intelligence; "How Steel is Made" and "Ordinary World" have given me the mission of the times; "Quiet Don River" and "Here the Dawn Is Quiet" have made me return to the war of blood and fire in the former Soviet Union and understand the suffering brought by the cruel war to the people. I read tirelessly, drawing nourishment from books, and I gradually grew up and knew what is true, good, and beautiful in this world. What are the false evils?
With a meager salary, I started buying books. "Selected Short Stories" and "Youth Digest", I am a must-read in every issue; "Waste Capital", "Riot Land", "White Deer Plain", "Red Sorghum" - I did not fall behind a single best-selling book at that time. Reading is happy, I am happy for the happiness of the characters in the book, sad for the sadness of the protagonist, feel the changes of the times, feel the progress of the country, feel the grandeur of society, and feel the ups and downs of life. Reading makes me happy, makes me happy, makes me fulfilled, makes me smart.
Later, I went to work in the county town, and although "books cannot be read unless they are borrowed", I could not borrow them. There was no library in the school; although there were some books in the county library, most of them were old books such as the Selected Works of Mao Zedong; colleagues either did not like to read books, or regarded books as their destiny, and books could not be borrowed. I began to buy books again, for decades, the collection of books in the home has been quite a lot, ancient and modern, Chinese and foreign, I dabbled in a lot, through the history of the subset, but also I searched into the bookcase a lot, really to "sweat cow stuffed house".
Nowadays, I have read more books and my literary appreciation has gradually increased. After the winter break, the school arranged for me to write a post-reading feeling, for which I revisited the French writer Maupassant's "Lamb Fat Ball". When re-reading "Mutton Fat Ball", I found that "Mutton Fat Ball" is no longer as beautiful as it was before, which makes me understand why readers often say that "after foreign masterpieces are translated into Chinese, the writing is greatly reduced", I finally feel the same way about this sentence.
