In 1991, at the age of 13, Buffon joined the Parma Juniors. In 1995, at the age of 17, Buffon made his Serie A debut. In 2001, Buffon moved to Juventus for a transfer fee of 54.1 million euros, breaking the record for the highest transfer fee for a goalkeeper. During his first time at Parma, he made 220 appearances for the team and completed 85 clean sheets.

For the national team, on 29 October 1997, the 19-year-old Buffon made his debut as a substitute for the national team. Buffon made a total of 176 appearances for the Italian national team, completing 77 clean sheets. Helped the Italian national team win the World Cup in 2006 and the runner-up in Euro 2012.
