The real Huang Feihong in history is definitely very different from what you imagined him

author:A big name in historiography

Huang Feihong can be described as a well-known film and television drama character image today, and he alone created a "universe" in the film and television industry - the Huang Feihong series. I am afraid that there are thousands of films and television works about him, so that up to the seventy- and eighty-year-old old man; down to the eleven- and twelve-year-old teenagers will know him to some extent; they will all say that he is a generation of masters with high martial skills, superb medical skills, punishing evil and promoting good.

However, the real Huang Feihong in history is definitely very different from what you imagined him, because the real huang is only a low-level person who knows martial arts and general medicine, and his influence throughout his life is very limited, and he is not as tall and mighty as in film and television works, and his influence is far-reaching! He became a household name on the screen because many of his apprentices and apprentices wrote novels or screenplays and filmed plays, and infinitely adapted and enlarged his deeds to bring them to the screen. Let me briefly introduce the life of Huang Feihong.

Huang Feihong (1856-1925), formerly known as Huang Xixiang, Zi Dayun, Feihong. He was born in Xiluzhou Village, Xiqiaoling, Nanhai County, Foshan City.

He learned art at an early age and followed his father to sell art and practice medicine

Although his father, Huang Qiying, was a martial artist of the late Qing Dynasty, one of the famous "Ten Tigers of Guangdong", he was highly skilled in martial arts and was good at treating bruises. However, Huang Qiying's family was destitute, and he could only survive by selling art and practicing medicine on the street for a long time. Huang Feihong was only three years old when he studied martial arts with his father and learned tiger fist, crane fist and other boxing skills.

However, Huang Qiying, who has experienced the bittersweet and bittersweet of the world, does not want his son to be like himself, relying on martial arts to make a living and live a poor and destitute life, but hopes that he will one day be able to obtain meritorious names, become an official, and honor his ancestors. So he took out the savings from selling his art and let Huang Feihong go to school. But Huang Feihong had no interest in studying, but was particularly attentive to the martial arts passed on to him by his father, and even skipped school to secretly watch his father perform martial arts on the side of the road.

Huang Qiying was very angry after learning that Huang Feihong had skipped school, but Huang Feihong insisted on refusing to study, and decided to go to sell art with his father, and Huang Qiying had no choice but to agree.

It may be that he inherited his father's martial arts talent, and when Huang Feihong learned martial arts, many moves were often learned once. Only seven or eight years old, he learned a good martial art, and even learned some of his father's medical skills, and since then he has officially begun to follow his father to the rivers and lakes, and live by selling art and practicing medicine (the stories about him in later generations also began from this).

Subsequently, Huang Feihong followed his father in the area of present-day Guangzhou and Foshan to sell martial arts to practice medicine for a living, during which the young Huang Feihong repeatedly competed with his peers at that time to practice martial arts, and repeatedly won victories, so he also won the name of "Young Hero".

While practicing martial arts with others, Huang Feihong did not forget to learn the art from his teacher. When he was 15 years old, Lin Fu, a senior apprentice who had visited the famous martial artist Tieqiao San in Foshan, Nanhai County, became a master, and spent two years learning martial arts techniques such as "Clematis" and "Flying Thallium".

Because of their superb martial arts, proficiency in medical skills, and benevolence, Huang Feihong's father and son are still well-known in the area of present-day Guangzhou and Foshan. However, its fame is also limited to the area around guangzhou and Foshan, which is far from being as shown in later film and television works, and its fame throughout Guangdong and even the whole country and even overseas.

He taught apprentices at the Kaibukan and served as a martial arts instructor in various places

In 1872 (the eleventh year of tongzhi in the Qing Dynasty), the 16-year-old Huang Feihong moved to Guangzhou with his father, and the local copper and iron workers admired the martial arts of the father and son, raised funds to open a martial arts hall for them in the seventh water foot, and began to teach martial arts to copper and iron workers.

In 1874 (the thirteenth year of Tongzhi in the Qing Dynasty), someone in the three columns of Guangzhou (fruit bars, vegetable bars, fish bars) hired Huang Feihong as a martial arts instructor in the line. Huang Feihong was also hired as a martial arts instructor of the Guangzhou Water Division, a technical instructor in the Green Camp Army, the head coach of the Guangdong Militia Regiment, and other coaching positions, during which he also met the famous patriotic hero and leader of the Black Flag Army, General Liu Yongfu (although the two met because Huang Feihong healed Liu Yongfu's injuries, and then taught martial arts in his army, and did not write any legend).

At the same time, Huang Feihong also served as someone else's bodyguard, and also relied on his martial arts in the folk to do several things that saw righteousness and courage, punished the strong and eliminated evil, and was rumored to be a good story by the world. There were also his famous disciples Liang Kuan, Lin Shirong and others who also received them at this time. The events that happened during this period were also the creative materials for those film and television works in later generations, and the famous medical hall "Baozhilin" in the film and television works was also opened in Ren'an Street, Guangzhou during this period.

Later life deeds

After the fall of the Qing Dynasty, in his later years, Huang Feihong resigned from his martial arts coaching positions everywhere and handed over the martial arts hall to his apprentices, while he was at ease to take care of his medical hall "BaoZhilin". Only occasionally invited to perform their martial arts and lion dances.

I did not expect that during a lion dance performance in his later years, he inadvertently met his fourth wife (the first three died prematurely due to illness), Mo Guilan (that is, the legendary thirteen aunts), so he also staged a marriage between old and young (Huang Feihong was 55 years old at the time, Mo Guilan was 19 years old).

However, there are unexpected storms in the sky, and Huang Feihong's later life is very unfortunate, first suffering from the pain of losing his son, and then encountering the sadness of karmic destruction.

In 1919 (the eighth year of the Republic of China), his son Huang Hansen was shot and killed in the army because of his high martial arts and jealousy of his colleagues. When Huang Feihong learned about it, he was grief-stricken but helpless. (Because it was a chaotic world in the early years of the Republic of China, and Huang Feihong was old and frail, there was no way to punish the murderer, and the real world was not as happy as in film and television works)

In October 1924 (the thirteenth year of the Republic of China), the National Government of Guangzhou sent troops to suppress the rebellion of the merchant group, and during the battle, the houses in the Xiguan area of Guangzhou were destroyed by fire, and Huang Feihongkai's "Baozhilin" on Ren'an Street was also burned, and all his assets were burned, and Huang Feihong was once again destitute, and eventually became depressed.

In April 1925 (the fourteenth year of the Republic of China), Huang Feihong died of illness in Guangzhou Chengxi Convenient Hospital at the age of 69. However, because the four walls of the family were unable to even be buried, in the end, it was funded by his female disciple Deng Xiuqiong to be buried in the foothills of Baiyun Mountain, and the evening scene could be described as extremely desolate!

Film and television works about Huang Feihong

However, what he did not expect was that many years after his death, he would become the hottest "screen hero", all because his apprentice (Lin Shirong's apprentice) Zhu Yuzhai wrote Huang Feihong's story into a novel, and Huang Disheng edited Huang Feihong's story into a drama and put it on the stage.

Liu Jialiang (Liu Jiarong), the son of his apprentice Liu Zhan (Lin Shirong's apprentice), even put his "grandfather" Huang Feihong on the big screen of the movie, thus creating the "universe" Huang Feihong series in the film and television industry.

The apprentice Grandson Liu Jialiang, who put "Grandmaster" Huang Feihong on the big screen of the movie

This is the real life of Huang Feihong in history, in his early years his family was extremely poor, from the age of seven or eight began to follow his father to sell art and practice medicine; when he became an adult, he was able to open a martial arts hall and settle in Guangzhou because of the financial support of copper and iron workers, and then he began to use his skills in various parts of Guangzhou as a martial arts instructor, as a bodyguard, and opened a medical center; this experience is very similar to our "North Drift" and "Guang Drift" family today, but he is relatively successful "Guang Drift", but in the end he was due to the "Rebellion of the Merchant Group" The fire destroyed his decades-long family fortune and died in grief.

However, his death did not cause a ripple in the chaotic world at that time. This is enough to see his fame and weight in the society at that time, and when he came out of the funeral, it was not a sad scene like the film and television works.

Throughout Huang Feihong's life, his footprints are only in present-day Guangzhou and Foshan, and he has never been to any other place. However, he has been to Hong Kong, Beijing, and even the United States in film and television works, all of which are fictional artistic processing. Therefore, we must not look at works of art as history.

In summary, it is not difficult for us to find that the generation of grandmasters and national heroes who are highly praised in those film and television works are just a low-level person who has spent most of his life running for himself and was once again suffering from poverty in his later years. This is indeed a world away from what we can imagine by simply imagining him through film and television works about him!
