The century-old store returns to BaZhan! Ericsson executives spoiled the blockbuster new products and took the pulse of the industry trend

The highly anticipated MWC Mobile World Congress (hereinafter referred to as "Mobile World Congress") will be held in Barcelona from February 28 to March 3, 2022. In the special period when the haze of the global epidemic has not yet receded, as the golden sign of the global mobile communications industry exhibition, the scheduled holding of this year's Pakistan Exhibition is undoubtedly a huge boost to the morale of the entire industry.

Previously, many mainstream communication manufacturers have announced that they will participate in the exhibition. Among them, as a century-old store in the communication equipment market, Ericsson returned to the Pakistan Exhibition again after two years, and Ericsson will exhibit in Hall 2 and showcase its solutions that create value for enterprises and consumers.

At the recent Ericsson MWC Barcelona 2022 pre-conference media and industry analyst briefing, ericsson executives shared Ericsson's latest insights into the industry and spoilers for the upcoming Pakistan exhibition.

5G will be the largest innovation platform in history

Ericsson's senior vice president and chief technology officer Erik Ekudden pointed out that by the end of 2021, the number of global 5G subscriptions has exceeded 660 million. According to the ten-year special issue of Ericsson Mobile Market Report, by the end of 2027, the number of global 5G contracted users will reach 4.4 billion, accounting for about 49% of the total number of mobile subscriptions in the world, and 5G will become the dominant mobile network access technology.

"That's a very amazing growth in itself. At the same time, the large-scale commercialization of 5G technology has expanded its applicability in enterprises/industries. For example, industries such as education and healthcare are using new 5G technologies for digitization, and large and heavy industries such as manufacturing and automobiles are now beginning to accept 5G as the main driver of innovation. Erik Ekudden believes that "this also means that in the next 10 years, 5G will become the largest innovation platform ever." ”

In the face of new opportunities for 5G, speaking about the future Ericsson strategy, Erik Ekudden pointed out that first of all, Ericsson is very concerned about the 5G digital infrastructure itself, we focus on wireless access, core network, communication services, OSS/BSS, etc., because this is the basis for creating new services on top, change and innovation often occur on top of digital infrastructure; at the same time, we also focus on sustainability, reliability and resiliency, cloud native, security, data drive and so on. The platform values provided by Ericsson include: coverage (ubiquitous coverage capabilities such as basic coverage, indoor coverage, wide area coverage, etc.) and capacity, voice/broadband and applications, high speed and low latency, service orchestration, wireless edge solutions, private networks, trusted execution environments, IoT solutions, network slicing, etc.

"We have to focus on technology transformation, but not just new technologies, but a new ecosystem that's evolving, and we're working with everyone who wants to create new 5G services on an innovative platform." We're making sure that all the capabilities built into platforms in the 5G era can be leveraged by developers and businesses that want to develop, really create the best performance, the best TCO, and ultimately enable our customers to grow their businesses this year and for years to come. "Erik Ekudden said the enterprise market will grow at a rate of 20-30% per year, so our strategy is also built on the pace of expansion into the enterprise business, and the wireless network built around the private network is a good starting point, which is a very strong growth market.

Facing the challenge of energy consumption, "compact, energy-saving, cloud-based" is the solution

Although 5G is expected to become the largest innovation platform in history, and the prospect of industry digitalization is unlimited, it is not all an opportunity for operators, but also full of new challenges.

Per Narvinger, head of network products at Ericsson, pointed out that in the past decade, mobile data traffic has increased by nearly 300 times and energy consumption has increased by 64%; by the end of 2027, 5G will cover about 75% of the world's population, and the total amount of mobile communication data in the world will increase by 5 times.

Ericsson estimates that the current annual energy cost of running a mobile network worldwide is about $25 billion. From a cost and carbon footprint perspective, energy consumption is one of the biggest challenges facing the mobile communications industry today. In the 5G era, due to the higher deployment frequency band and greater density of base stations, the energy consumption of 5G may be several times that of 4G, and the energy consumption of 5G has become a common challenge facing the industry. Operators must reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions while accelerating network upgrades and expansions.

So, how do you provide customers with and build the best product portfolio to create a sustainable 5G network? Per Narvinger said, "There are two key trends in our new portfolio: one is more integration, especially with Ericsson's unique silicon core technology, which is more compact and energy efficient in terms of hardware; the other is the introduction of cloud technology on the software side. This will make the product easier, faster to roll out, and more sustainable. ”

Several new RAN products enable operators to deploy 5G faster and more sustainably

It is understood that with the blessing of the new generation of Ericsson silicon core technology, Ericsson's newly released 7 new RAN products and solutions put energy efficiency in the first place, providing intelligent, lightweight and sustainable 5G network solutions, helping operators reduce the footprint of 5G sites and improve bandwidth, energy efficiency and user experience.

According to Per Narvinger, Ericsson's new portfolio will deliver significant energy savings and up to 10x capacity growth, allowing operators to deploy 5G in a faster and more sustainable way.

Among them, the dual-band wireless product Radio 4490 consumes 25% less energy and is lighter than the previous generation of the same configuration product; the high-power version of the dual-band wireless product 4490HP output power is increased by 50%, and the 4490 and 4490HP products use the industry's most reliable passive cooling system, and are compatible with Ericsson's cloud-based wireless base station architecture; 64T/R medium-band Massive MIMO AIR 6428 not only has 400MHz bandwidth capability. Support efficient RAN sharing, and weigh only 25 kg, single person can be handled, can achieve simple installation; highly integrated multi-frequency antenna 4602 width is only 398mm, lower wind resistance, better meet site construction requirements; currently the industry's lightest, smallest new generation of active passive antenna integrated wireless device AIR 3218; Ericsson also for the new wireless products and Maxive MIMO product portfolio to develop deep sleep energy-saving software, low traffic consumption of each wireless product reduced by 70% Carrier aggregation supporting 5G multi-band can increase the 5G coverage of medium-band TDD by 60%, and support Ericsson's 5G dedicated hardware base station and cloud-based wireless base station deployment.

At the same time, Ericsson has also recently launched a dynamic network slicing selection solution, providing multiple custom network slicing for 5G devices. In addition, Ericsson recently released a new cellular IoT platform IoT Accelerator Connect, providing enterprises with plug-and-play cellular IoT connectivity, enabling operators and enterprises around the world to expand their IoT business on tens of millions of devices.

Return to the Ba exhibition, new products are unveiled

It is foreseeable that at the upcoming Pakistan Exhibition, Ericsson's latest 5G products and solutions will be unveiled.

According to Matthew Smith, vice president and head of on-site marketing at Ericsson, Ericsson's booth at the Pakistan Exhibition has a large space of 6,000 square meters, equivalent to the size of a football field. I believe this is a very exciting thing for all those who are going to be on the scene.
