The origin of ancient book restoration technology can be traced back to the western Zhou dynasty, and has developed to a certain extent by the time of the Southern and Northern Dynasties. With the development of history, the technology of ancient book restoration has also continued to advance.
In the Tang Dynasty, Zhang Yanyuan said in the article "On Mounting the Axis of the Back": "Since the Jin Dynasty, the back is not good, and Fan Hu was able to carry the back in the Song Dynasty. Emperor Wu of the Song Dynasty, Emperor Ming, Yu Yan, Chao Shangzhi, Xu Xixiu, and Sun Fengbo compiled books and memorized them. Emperor Wu of Liang ordered Zhu Ming, Xu Shengquan, Tang Huaichong, Yao Huaizhen, Shen Chiwen, and so on to add protection..." From the description of the text, it can be seen that since the Southern Song Dynasty, the protection of ancient books has been valued, and many skilled craftsmen in the restoration of ancient books have begun to appear.
The emergence of ancient book restoration technology is a major breakthrough and leap in the protection technology of books and classics. To the Ming and Qing dynasties. The ancient book restoration technology has gradually developed into a unique traditional technique for the protection of rare books and ancient books, which has been passed down to this day, and it is an extremely important and representative technology for the rescue and protection of ancient documents.
With the development of ancient book restoration technology to this day, there have been a large number of experts who are quite accomplished in the restoration technology of ancient books, such as Mr. Cao Youfu, a Suzhou native who is famous for his stunt of "cutting books with big knives"; Mr. Huang Huaijue, a Wuxi man who is famous for his exquisite stone carving and inscription mounting technology; and Mr. Yan Xikui, who is highly skilled in mounting paintings and mounting albums.
