On February 23, Clarivate ( formerly Thomson Reuters Intellectual Property and Technology Division ) released the "2022 Global Top 100 Innovation Institutions" report, and five companies from Chinese mainland, including Ant Group, Alibaba and Huawei, were selected, along with Intel, HP and other technology companies.

The report looks at the continued innovation capabilities of companies to select the top 100 institutions at the top of the global innovation ecosystem. According to the report, more than half (54) of this year's global innovation 100 are from Asia, highlighting Asia's dominance in the global innovation landscape.

"Compared with other innovative institutions, Ant Group has been selected for its consistently excellent performance in patented inventions around the world. In particular, the impact of Ant Group's innovative inventions on other institutions is very significant, reflecting the innovation leadership of Ant Group. According to the data released by the international authoritative database Derwent World Patent Index (AB: DWPI), in 2020, Ant Group's blockchain-related patent strength (average strength index) ranked first in the world, and it performed prominently in terms of authorized patents, coverage and citation rate. In October last year, IPRdaily, an intellectual property research institute, and incoPat, a global patent database provider, jointly released a report showing that Ant Group also ranked first in the global high-relevance blockchain authorized patent ranking in 2021.

In addition to blockchain, Ant Group also actively invests in innovative research and development of cutting-edge technologies such as secure computing, artificial intelligence, and the Internet of Things. According to reports, in 2021, Ant Group will add more than 6600 new authorized patents worldwide. Since 2017, the number of patents held by Ant Group has increased 37-fold to more than 15,000 in less than five years.
