The largest late Neolithic cellar in Lingnan

The Huangpu Pitouling Site is located in the northwest of Huangtian Village, Longhu Street, Huangpu District, and is in the center of the core economic belt of the planned Sino-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City Ring Jiulonghu Headquarters.

In cooperation with the construction of the project, the Guangzhou Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology conducted two rescue archaeological excavations on the site, and found cultural relics from the late Neolithic period, the middle and late Warring States period to the early Western Han Dynasty, dating from about 4500 to 2200 years ago.

Among them, the remains of the late Neolithic period include cellars, ash pits, pillar caves and other remains, and the original distribution range of the remains of this period may exceed 10,000 square meters.

The 48 caves are the most remarkable discoveries excavated, H25 is the largest, the plane is nearly circular, the largest diameter is 2.74 meters, the depth is 5.2 meters, is currently the largest archaeological discovery in the Lingnan area of the late Neolithic cellar. It can be seen from this that the degree of development of the level of productivity of the ancestors of Pitouling at that time and the richness of social property reserves.

The Huangpu Pitouling site is another important discovery after the Huangpu Tangcun Chaling Site and the Licorice Ridge Site in 2017, and the number, scale and density are far more than the latter, and are also rare for the archaeological and cultural remains of the same period in lingnan. These cave ruins are of great academic significance for the study of the level of productivity development at that time, the scale of production in early agriculture and the stage of social development.

Pillar caves, trenches and other relics related to house architecture provide extremely rare archaeological empirical data for restoring the living style of prehistoric ancestors. Although the number of tombs in the first period of remains is not large, the early age and clear hierarchical relationship are very important for the construction of the sequence of prehistoric cultural development in the Pearl River Delta.

Explore important clues to the process of Lingnan civilization in the pre-Qin period

The tombs of the middle and late Warring States period to the early Western Han Dynasty are the highest number, largest scale and most complete preservation of high-grade Yue people's cemeteries found in Lingnan.

M30 is the most complete and largest-scale tomb of the late Warring States period known in Lingnan. The surface of the earth has relatively tall sealing soil, tombs are arranged according to the trend of the mountain, the burial depth is shallow, and the stone bed at the bottom of the tomb has obvious relics of Jiangsu and Zhejiang mound tombs, reflecting the strong ethnic characteristics of the Yue culture. The coffin settings of some large and medium-sized tombs can see the influence of Lingbei Chu culture, reflecting the integration and interaction of Chu yue culture.
