If there is an afterlife, make a tree,
Stand forever. There is no posture of sorrow and joy,
Half serene in the dust,
Half flying in the wind;
Half sprinkled in the shade,
Half soaked up the sun.
Very silent, very proud.
Never rely on, never look for.
If there is an afterlife, it will turn into a gust of wind,
A moment can be an eternity.
There is no sentiment of kindness,
No amorous eyes.
Half sprinkled in the rain,
Half travel in the spring light;
Lonely, lonely and far away,
Take away the faint thoughts,
Never miss, never love;
If there is an afterlife, be a bird,
Fly over eternity without the distress of getting lost.
There is fiery hope in the east, and warm nest beds in the south,
Retreat to the west and awaken the fragrance to the north.

Sanmao (March 26, 1943 – January 4, 1991), real name Chen Ping, was born in Dinghai District, Zhoushan City, Zhejiang Province, born in Huangjueya, Nan'an District, Chongqing, and was a contemporary female writer and traveler in Taiwan.
