After Bridgwater Town Council approved the purchase at a meeting on Monday, Mayor David Mitchell announced an exciting development on Twitter. Mitchell said Bridgewater Police Department needs a new patrol car this year, though it's about $15,000 more expensive than a traditional police car. Mitchell told CKBW: "We looked at a number of community cases similar to ours that have switched to electric patrol cars, and they report saving about $5,000 a year in addition to the years longer than gasoline cars. ”

They chose Tesla over electric products from other automakers because they believe it was the only electric car that would be suitable for police use and that they could use within a reasonable time frame. While the Model 3 is not yet ordered as the town's authorities still need to complete some paperwork, Mitchell expects to place orders in the coming weeks. However, because Tesla does not sell a Model 3 specifically equipped for police use, the car must arrive in Nova Scotia before it can be modified.
