JAGDA, also known as the Japan Graphic Designers Association, was established by the Japanese graphic design generation master Yusa Kamakura, and its annual "JAGDA Award" and "Kamekura Yusatsu Award" can be called the "surprise blind box" of the global graphic design industry.
This year, it's time for the draw again, and the Yuji Kamakura Prize, the strongest peak award for Japanese poster design, has a surprise that can be called "breaking the tradition": "HIROSHIMA".
The main body of its poster is a snowflake ball, and inside the snowflake ball is a white dove symbolizing peace, unlike the white snowflake of the regular snowflake ball, which contains black powder.
The biggest design feature of this poster is that it uses augmented reality (AR) technology, when scanning photos with mobile phones, black powder starts to fly from the bottom, and finally fills the snowflake balls, as if suffocated by war, black rain, etc.
Finally, the powder slowly fell to the ground, like ashes after the disaster, bringing people deep contemplation.
Since more than 70 years ago, graphic design has continued to iterate from posters to a variety of media, relying on the leap of science and technology, and the expression of graphic vision has been continuously iterated. Today, the updated application of AR technology will reflect the static visual display that originally existed on the 2D surface in a more three-dimensional form through the author's hand.
The author is Takuya Onuki, who was born in Tokyo in 1958 and graduated from the Graphic Design Department of Tama University of Fine Arts in 1980 and joined Hakatado in the same year.
He is a topic figure, creating many advertising hits, and is a symbol of the "Creative Bohodo", and many graphic designers, including Katsushi Sato, must call him "Master".
AR technology is not uncommon, and it is frequently used in product displays, party performances and other occasions. Hiroshima appealed for poster design
As a further reading, back to the original Daisuke Takuya award-winning poster, it is actually a propositional creative theme work, from the "Hiroshima Appeal".
Co-founded in 1983 by the Japan Graphic Designers Association (JAGDA), the Hiroshima Peace Creation Fund, and the Hiroshima International Cultural Foundation, the Hiroshima Appeal is a graphic design-led peace campaign.
Every year, the project invites a designer to create an annual poster under the theme of "Hiroshima Appeal", expressing the "anti-war spirit" from a neutral perspective. The first "Hiroshima Appeal" poster, created by YUTA Kamekura, the first president of JAGDA, has been participated by 23 designers (Note: This activity was suspended in 1990 for some reasons and restarted in 2005).
