The Celtics lacked Smart and Robert Williams, and the Celtics opened the first quarter to take a 9-5 lead, with Brown scoring eight points with two three-pointers and a layup, and Stewart scoring four consecutive points to tie the score. Brown hit two free throws, Bay hit a three-pointer, Horford and Tatum hit consecutive hits, and Stewart threw a three-point lead with Grant. The two teams then drew back-to-back to 21-21, with Brown hitting two free throws and Tatum on a three-pointer, Diallo hitting a layup, and the Celtics led the Pistons by two points at 25-23 in the first quarter, with Brown scoring 13 points in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Diallo took the lead in the air dunk, with Neismith and Grant Williams each hitting a three-pointer, and Olynyk scoring two consecutive three-pointers in return.
