Editor's Note:

This article is a shortlisted article under the Minority 2021 Essay Campaign tab. This article represents the author's own views only, and a few parties have made slight adjustments to the title and layout.

Different from previous years, the data performance of this year's articles will largely determine the final direction of the essay campaign, including the "double remuneration (sponsored by Feishu)" campaign rewards, the final voting list and the types of essay prizes. If you like this article, you may wish to support the author by charging or commenting.

It seems that sentences like "XX is a way of life" are going to be used badly. But I really can't think of a better way to summarize the article I'm going to write next. After all, writing in the minority is itself a part of my life, and there are indeed many elements of my lifestyle that revolve around the purpose of writing. Even though I'm not a professional writer (gosh, I think I'd love to be a freelance writer if I had that self-discipline), writing has gone beyond hobbies — so I had to define it as a way of life.

At the end of last year, I happened to be hooked on the American drama "Sex and the City." The American drama unfolds in the form of Carrie Bradshaw, a columnist for a New York newspaper, writing about her own and her friends' romances. Of course, the show is known for its open and bold shots, but I've always been fascinated by the way the protagonist Carrie writes (when, where) it's: sometimes she's at the window, watching a couple on the other side doing something indescribable; sometimes she's sitting on a bed, lighting a cigarette, and meditating; sometimes because she can't stand the crowds of the apartment, going out to the café to watch the crowds coming and going — perhaps it's the unfettered freedom I crave most.

Carrie and her PowerBook G3 reading were the beginning of writing

Getting information is probably the first step in exporting it – I think so anyway. Free writing itself comes from a lot of extensive reading, so it's no wonder that people often say that "the world's articles are copied in a big way". Routines are all there, and it is indeed more effective to pay attention to when writing.

My sources of reading are actually not too "extensive", only some media / up / YouTuber that I will pay attention to a lot, as a source of information I personally think is enough, and I do not feel overloaded every day. Since the personal interests are mainly focused on the technology/digital aspect, the media sites that follow are also mostly listed here.

However, before listing, I would like to make a disclaimer:

The YouTuber/UP master/website/media listed below have no interest in me other than a minority. Dealings with minorities are limited to my remuneration as a minority author and do not constitute advertising in any commercial sense.

The YouTuber/UP Master/Website/Media listed below, although it is my source of information, does not mean that I identify with all of the views that have been published, are being published, or will be published in the future on the YouTuber/UP Master/UP Website/Media.

The YouTuber/UP main/website/media listed below is not the entirety of my sources.

YouTuber / B 站 up

It's a video age, right? So inevitably, I also paid attention to some YouTuber and B station up, mainly related to technology. Accounts that pay attention to videos are actually mainly because sometimes it is easy to fall asleep when watching text assessments, videos are actually much more interesting and direct in form, and the amount of information obtained is not small. Every time the evaluation of Apple products is unblocked, I always crouch in the first time to evaluate several media.

But at the same time, the information that a video can give is ultimately limited — whether it's the length of time or the more intuitive nature of the video itself, it's an obstacle to providing more information. Therefore, I will also refer to the media reports after the video to pay attention to some details that have not been mentioned in many video reviews.

Geek Bay

Geek Bay's analysis of M1

Watching the geek bay video, it actually started with the iPhone 12. The A14 analysis video they did really made me see that the word "geek" is not just talking. Hardcore hardware commentary videos have always been the main focus of Geek Bay, whether it is Qualcomm Snapdragon, Kirin or Tianji series, Geek Bay has always used a professional and easy-to-understand way to explain the comparison and intergenerational relationship between different mobile CPUs (if I remember correctly, using the original god as a benchmark is also a gust of wind rolled up from them, right?). )

LinusTechTips

Linus Tech Tips' traditional performer is the speed of light chanting

After Lao Lai's reputation as "well-known fruit black" was confirmed, I began to pay attention to this video. Now, LinusTechTips has more than one number on YouTube, which can be said to have evolved into one of the "giants" in the technology evaluation industry. The update frequency of LinusTechTips is undoubtedly the most frequent (and a few recent changes) in the technology class up / YouTuber that I follow, and the content is also the richest - from installation to the latest hardware reviews to common small problems in technology life, LinusTechTips are involved, and the style is also funny and humorous, not the serious neutral style common to technology review accounts. And there's no shortage of very hard-core analytics (e.g., torrenting for computer shutdown-related issues). Finally, LinusTechTips also opened an official account on station B, and hired a domestic subtitle group for bilingual subtitle translation, which can be said to be very conscientious.

Let's take a look at the review first

Start by reviewing the monitor landscape with purchase recommendations

First look at a series of horizontal evaluation comparison videos that left the deepest impression on me: from real wireless headphones to monitors to vacuum cleaners, washing machines, the first review is not focused on 3C digital, but the life appliances are also included in the ranks of evaluation and comparison, which can be said to be closer to life, but at the same time, it is not discounted in professionalism. "55-inch 4K TV as long as 1200, can Pinduoduo's explosive TV be bought?" " is what I think they have done the best so far - it not only tells us how to choose from the perspective of product parameters and measured performance, but also helps us (consumers) do out-of-the-box thinking: how far can manufacturers do in order to reduce costs?

All kinds of scientific and technological media

Since it is "stealing teachers", how can there be fewer websites in one's own family! Although I am not very interested in every article on the minority, and I do not have a recharge member, the content of the homepage is actually enough for me to refer to and learn when writing.

For writing on some related topics, I may go to the minority to go through the works of previous generations and draw some inspiration from them. For example, this year's book "What's the Best Translation App for You in 2021?" When you might need this guide, I relentlessly referred to the relevant comparisons that Harvey wrote in 2020, learned the framework of translation tool comparison from this article, and finally added more personal focus points to my article.

In addition, he wrote the "City Roaming Guide | When I broke Moscow, I also referred to other articles in the "City Roaming Guide" series of previous minorities to see what points people are most concerned about for an unfamiliar city - combined with their own emotions and experiences of Moscow, to describe their personal life in Moscow.

Because of this, I really appreciate the minority platform, which can refer to so many resources at the same time, but also ensure the quality of the content and the frequency of updates.

WIRED Wired is an international magazine for the digital life of science and technology. The magazine itself doesn't offer much information, but each time it has a topic article that catches my eye or two. For example, the articles I have seen about the Russian ransomware team in the past two days have learned a lot about the development of ransomware since 2020 and the changes in these teams.

In addition, WIRED also has a lot of life content worth paying attention to. The weekly newsletters I receive from here are divided into the main series and the Gadget Lab series, which focus on some of the many things you might need in your digital life. For example, the most recent issue is a series of articles on how to repair iPhones on self-service, including preparations that may be needed, tools, and tips on how to save yourself if the car is overturned.

In addition, since WIRED is a traditional print media, its word formation and writing structure are usually very professional. In almost every story story, we can see the clear ins and outs of events without getting too bored. Compared with other more "hardcore" consumer technology media introduced next, WIRED explores more about the interaction between technology and human social life.

Every year apple new product release, I will pay special attention to the first time the Verge start-up review. I remember last year, during Apple's new product launch season, The Verge's staff seemed to be not sleeping, constantly posting videos on YouTube and posting on the website. The Verge's reviews feel like they're going straight and unabashed. With every review, it captures the points I want to know the most to dig deeper.

For example, this recent review was about Intel 12-generation CPUs. Compared to other media outlets' "big appreciation" for its performance improvements, as well as its improvements over the 11th generation Intel processor, The Verge has taken a different approach and sharply pointed out the important factor of form factor. The 12th generation CPU currently being sent to the media is packaged in the MSI GE76 Raider 17-inch gamebook. Not to mention the $3999 price, just this size, weight and battery life have made it almost worthy of the positioning of "laptop" (The Verge is the closest notebook to a desktop computing device). Although the Core i9 12900HK can beat the M1 Max in many ways, at present, we do not know how the new generation of architecture will perform in thin and light books, which are the notebook products that the public can experience the most.

In addition, The Verge's text review is also worth reading, and you can learn a lot about the structure of the review. The basic aspects of a hardware review, how to sort it, and how to organize the language can all be learned from it. The Verge also gives a rating and final conclusion in the review, which is convenient for reference when purchasing options, and provides me with some new ideas and perspectives for writing articles. For example, when I was writing a review of the Surface Laptop Go, I referred to this review of The Verge, which also gave me more insight into the notebook in my hand.

If wired and The Verge are still more digital (in this sense, more "minority"), then Notebook Check is a real "speak with data". In general, if I need to know what models of parts are used inside a product (especially notebooks) during the writing process, and their specific performance, or even their relative position in similar hardware, then Notebook Check is my most trusted source of information. The site not only has a detailed review of the entire laptop, computer or tablet, but also can compare the computer hardware of different manufacturers from specific CPU and GPU models. If you are sensitive to numbers, or feel that "you are not objective enough without seeing specific numbers", this website can indeed provide very comprehensive and accurate hardware performance information, and present data through a large number of comparisons (such as the ladder chart of CPU and GPU), which can be said to be the gospel of the "data party".
