Bandai Namco is developing its own game engine, which may be ready for use within a year

Bandai Namco is a company that everyone should know, and they have a lot of games developed or released in-house, such as "Eldon's Ring of Law", "Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm" series and so on. However, many games are well-rated in the game media, and one of the most likely reasons is that they are not familiar with third-party development engines. Therefore, having a home-developed game engine ensures that developers have absolute control and understanding of the technologies used in the game, making the development process smoother. And that seems to be what Bandai Namco has been doing for the past few years.

Bandai Namco is developing its own game engine, which may be ready for use within a year

Bandai Namco's director of engine units, Katsusuke Horiuch, said in an earlier interview with Automation Media that they were developing an engine that could be "used to develop large-scale games such as open worlds." The reason for the development of the engine, he said, is so that you can continue to have your own thick technical capabilities without relying on game engines developed by other companies.

It is reported that the relevant development work of the engine has been carried out as early as 2019, and it will be ready for use within the next 1 year. However, this also means that the game developed using Bandai Namco's own engine should not meet with everyone in the next few years.

In any case, it's a good thing that Bandai Namco has its own engine, and even better, this engine is run by Julien Merceron, who was involved in the development of konami's Fox Engine game engine, so the engine itself should be fine.

It is also worth mentioning that Bandai Namco's game revenue for the last nine months (ending December 31, 2021) was $1.4 billion, down 16% year-on-year. Having a home engine should help Bandai Namco increase its revenue from games.
