Tesla's tenth recall in the past four months The function of the self-selected speaker sound effect has also been disabled

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said Thursday that Tesla is recalling 578,607 vehicles in the United States. Under increasing scrutiny by NHTSA, Tesla has issued ten recalls in the past four months.

NHTSA said the vehicles did not meet the minimum sound requirements for electric vehicles in the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. The noise emitted by these electric vehicles when driving is very small, and pedestrians may not know that a vehicle is approaching, increasing the likelihood of a traffic accident.

Separately, NHTSA believes the "Boombox" feature violates federal safety standards that require electric vehicles to emit pedestrian warning noise and asks Tesla to disable the feature.

Tesla introduced the feature in December 2020, where owners can change the car's horn tone, with options such as goat barking, farting, and more. In addition, the owner can also play the music in the car through external speakers.

Tesla will address this issue through an online OTA upgrade. When the vehicle is in drive, neutral and reverse modes, the Boombox function will be disabled. Many of Tesla's recent recalls have been to address software issues.
