"Floating Over the Sea of Life" is a text written down by his father during his two months in 1967 when he was seriously ill and admitted to Kwong Wah Hospital in Kowloon, and continued to write after discharge, first as a daily column in the newspaper, and the following year. Chemotherapy four times, then major surgery to remove four-fifths of the stomach and surrounding spread lymph, wound healing and then 25 times of radiation therapy, followed by chemotherapy...
For the first time in eight or nine months, I also had the opportunity to observe society from inside the hospital and observe the operation of today's medical system. In particular, during the transfer to Shanghai Cancer Hospital for radiation therapy, it happened to be a positive case of new crown confirmed there. On that day, if my wife and I left two hours late, we would be locked up in quarantine for two weeks with the entire hospital and the medical school next door. The next day we answered the phone to inform us to test for nucleic acid, it was okay, and then transferred to the Pudong Branch to continue radiotherapy, and on the eve of the Spring Festival, we were transferred back to Puxi Hospital. At such an urgent moment, the hospital made the fastest arrangements for our patients, and I don't know how many medical staff were involved in the future. In order to make up for the lost time in the hospital, they did not take a vacation during the Spring Festival, and I completed the last radiotherapy on the fourth day of the Chinese New Year.
Cancer and treatment made me face and seriously think about the problem of life and death for the first time. At this time, looking at my father's "Floating Over the Sea of Life", there will be a kind of thought of dialogue with him in the next generation, and I want to write some words, or publish a book with the title of "I also floated over the sea of life".
I also floated through the sea of life, still struggling to get ashore, the process is hard, but it is also worth it. Every day there are new experiences, and every day we get new insights from the people and things we encounter. The power of life is really tenacious, and the development of science has made "survival with cancer" become the reality of more and more people, and even "work with cancer".
