Dezeen, the world's most influential online architectural design website, recently announced the top ten most impressive architectural projects from China in 2021, and some foreign netizens directly shouted "amazing" after watching it, envious to want to punch in across borders.
The selected works are distributed in 7 cities across the country, including new popular Internet celebrity punch points, as well as little-known rural buildings. There are four buildings in Shanghai, let's take a look
Fengxian New City - Life Station
The Living Inn was designed by Steven Hall, one of the representative figures of contemporary American architects.
As a "social container", the living station encloses the surrounding new residential community and punan's riverside park into a public space. Overlooked from the nearby tall buildings, the two buildings are almost integrated into the park landscape because of the sedum plants planted on the roofs.
It blends the concept of "cloud and time", such as the circular landscape walkway in the style of a clock to form a central public space, and the cloud-like opening of the building to convey open invitations to the public, allowing you to experience the sense of fairy spirit like the clouds!
The living station features a white porous concrete façade suspended from a transparent glass base, and the curved ramp landscape continues to the second floor space to provide an overlooking experience for the public. In the future, there will be multi-functional spaces such as exhibition areas, gymnasiums, and youth activity areas.

Shanghai Qingpu Pinghe Bilingual School

Instead of bringing all the learning spaces together in a single building, Shanghai Qingpu Pinghe Bilingual School takes the form of a variety of different architectural monolithic settlements, the core of which is the Pinghe Book Theater called Blue Whale (below).
The Peace Book Theater is a large library, a 500-seat professional theater, and a 150-seat black box theater, creatively combined in one building. Some children say it looks like a blue whale, while others say it looks like a giant ship. Unique architectural forms and spaces full of freedom not only cultivate children's interest in reading and performance, but also allow their imaginations to swim in the ocean of knowledge.
In order to avoid the boring and tedious children staying in a house all year round, the designers abandoned the popular campus megastructures in recent years, dismantled and recombined the functions in the original design book to form a settlement of single buildings.

Shanghai Planetarium
Designed by Thomas J. Wong, design partner at Ennead Architects, the Shanghai Planetarium is dedicated to creating an immersive experience that allows visitors to interact directly with a variety of astronomical phenomena and raise awareness of the fundamental relationship between the sun and the earth's orbit through careful treatment of proportions, forms, and light. As a branch of the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum, the Shanghai Planetarium is also the world's largest astronomical museum.

The exterior of the building is heavily curved and a spiral green belt is introduced to symbolize the beauty of the curves of celestial movement: the center of the atrium, the entrance skylight, and the planetary sphere of the celestial hall can be seen. The entire planetarium and its three main buildings– the round-hole skylight, the inverted dome and the celestial hall sphere, together interpret the basic laws of the movement of celestial bodies (the sun, the moon and the stars).

Designers want to create a unique and unpredictable walking experience. While perfectly embedding the local urban fabric, the building forms the two entrances to Madang Road and Tamsui Road with beige facades. Citizens can get a glimpse of the unique light and colours of the interior, as well as the lush vegetation. The ubiquitous flowers, shrubs and greenery envelop the entire building in a green field, forming a horizontal and vertical multi-dimensional garden, allowing the public to feel the bloom of flowers and the change of seasons.
