Killing Chinese Scavengers Without Cause The U.S. suspects involved in the case escalated charges but refused to plead guilty

According to the US Chinese Network, in April 2021, Yao Pan Ma, a 61-year-old Chinese man in New York, was picking up cans in New York's Harlem district when he was suddenly attacked from behind by an African-American man and repeatedly kicked his head, then fell into a coma and was finally declared dead on December 31. On Thursday (Feb. 10), suspect Jarrod Powell was arraigned in Manhattan Criminal Court on charges escalated to second-degree murder on hate crimes.

Powell pleaded not guilty to the charges in court. His bail is set at $3 million in cash or $9 million in bonds, and his next appearance is on April 11.

Chen Jialing, a community figure who has been helping the Ma family, revealed that the Manhattan District Inspection Office convened a grand jury last Thursday (Feb. 3) and raised a case in which the grand jury prosecuted the suspect. He also said That Ma Yaopan's family and community hope that Powell will be tried and convicted as soon as possible to ensure that he can no longer take to the streets to hurt anyone.
