February 10 - Akamai Technologies, Inc. and MUSO have released a new research report analyzing the continuing prevalence of online piracy.

Between January and September 2021, the global demand for piracy reached 3.7 billion unauthorized online streaming and downloads. According to the research report, 61.5% of consumers who illegally obtain digital content will directly access resources by visiting pirated resource websites, while 28.6% of the population actively search for pirated content.

James Mason, CHIEF TECHNOLOGY OFFICER of MUSO, said: "When we assessed piracy in the film and television, software, publishing and music industries around the world, we found that its sheer size was already evident. Even more worrying is the fact that the problem of piracy is still worsening in many areas, with an overall increase of 16 per cent over the past nine months. As our report with Akamai shows, rather than fighting piracy independently, industries work together to gain a deep understanding of the changing ecosystem trends of piracy to build effective means to prevent piracy. ”
