AMD announced that it has passed all necessary reviews and will complete its acquisition of Xilinx around February 14

AMD officials announced today that it has received the necessary regulatory approvals, the remaining required transaction conditions have been met in addition to the normal terms of the agreement, and the acquisition of Xilinx is expected to be completed around February 14, 2022.

On October 27, 2020, AMD announced the acquisition of Xilinx through an all-stock trading plan worth approximately $35 billion. Upon completion of the transaction, AMD shareholders will own 74 percent of the combined company and Xilinx shareholders will own another 26 percent, and the boards of directors of both companies unanimously approved the deal. AMD CEO Dr. Zifeng Su will continue to lead the new company as CEO, and Victor Peng, President and CEO of Xilinx, will become President of Xilinx's business and strategic growth initiatives. At least two Xilinx directors will also join AMD's board of directors upon completion of the transaction.

Xilinx is primarily known for its FPGA products, and FPGAs can do a great job of specific tasks, whether it is acting as an accelerator for large-scale data centers or improving the execution efficiency of artificial intelligence, specially customized FPGAs can free the CPU from individual high-load tasks and speed up the system. In fact, AMD and Xilinx have previously worked closely together on deep learning projects, such as AMD's deep learning solutions on the EPYC family of processors.

The combined AMD will have products covering CPUs, GPUs, FPGAs, adaptive SOCs, and extended software products, covering cutting-edge areas such as cloud computing, edge computing, and smart end devices. AMD CEO Dr. Zifeng Su has said that the acquisition of Xilinx marks AMD's establishment as a leader in high-performance computing in the industry.
