A driver with a learning driver's license kills a 10-year-old girl in Queens and injures a woman

A 34-year-old driver with a driver's license killed a 10-year-old girl and injured another pedestrian in Queens.

According to ABC7, the incident took place wednesday afternoon at Beach Channel Drive. Surveillance footage showed the driver failing to turn and accelerate, hitting pedestrians and crashing into an empty car wash.

Witness Jones said she was driving at a high speed and that her accelerator pedal might have been stuck.

Police are determining whether there is a criminal act.

Another pedestrian who was hit was a 33-year-old woman who was not expected to be life-threatening. She wasn't walking with 10-year-old Davina Afokoba. Two other pedestrians nearby, a man and a young boy, dodged the out-of-control car in time.

Reverend Mullings, principal of Challenge Charter School, said Davina, 10, was a fifth-grader at the school. The school provides counsellors for students and teachers. They are planning a vigil in the future.
