In Seattle, a Chinese engineer, Emma Shengnan Wang, was on her way home when a man suddenly walked up behind her, smashed her on the head with a baseball bat, and walked away.

The footage shows Wang lying face down on the ground. After being taken to the hospital, examination revealed multiple skull fractures requiring "major surgery".

Police then arrested the suspect, with witnesses saying he went to eat pizza with a bat after the attack. Thanks to his unique facial tattoos, he was easily found.

Investigators believe the attack was random, saying the suspect did not know the victim; he did not appear to have stolen anything from her or said anything to her.

This is a habitual offender, from the criminal record of 2006, has been arrested 11 times, including first-degree robbery, theft, beatings, burglary, reckless driving and so on. He is now charged with a first-degree felony assault offence.

The bail is set at $150,000. If convicted, he faces up to 12 years in prison.
