Today, the National Academy of Engineering elected 111 new members and 22 international members. In addition to the 111 new U.S. members, there is a more special person - SpaceX CEO Elon Musk.

The National Academy of Engineering is one of the highest professional honors awarded to engineers
The members of the Academy are:
Make outstanding contributions to engineering research, practice or education.
The other members are:
Pioneer new and developing areas of technology; make significant progress in traditional engineering; or develop or implement innovative approaches to engineering education.
The election of new members of the National Academy of Engineering is a one-year process, and the college now has 2,388 U.S. members and 310 international members. The Academy records their contributions to each new member, and for Elon Musk, the Academy writes: SpaceX Founder, CEO and Chief Engineer, based in Hawthorne, California. Breakthroughs in the design, engineering, manufacturing and operation of reusable launch vehicles and sustainable transport and energy systems.
After the award, Musk quickly tweeted his gratitude for the honor.
