On February 7, Tuopu Group announced that it intends to establish a new wholly-owned subsidiary, Tuopu Skateboard Chassis (Ningbo) Co., Ltd. (tentative name) in Hangzhou Bay New Area, Ningbo City, with a registered capital of RMB 2 billion. According to the announcement, the business scope of the new subsidiary is auto parts research and development, auto parts and accessories manufacturing, auto parts wholesale & retail, etc.
The announcement also shows that the new subsidiary will focus on the skateboard chassis. What is a "skateboard chassis"? That is, the battery, electric drivetrain, suspension, brake and other components are integrated into the chassis to achieve the separation of the body and the chassis, and the design is decoupled. Rivian in the United States is one of the auto companies that use skateboard chassis, and its stock price and market value have soared since its listing.
Prior to this, Tuopu Group has established cooperation with RIVIAN in the field of skateboard chassis, providing RIVIAN with lightweight chassis systems, including subframes, control arms, steering knuckles and other products.
Tuopu Group said that the use of skateboard chassis can quickly create differentiated models, thereby reducing the development costs of car companies and shortening the development cycle. The company has a wealth of product lines and chassis tuning capabilities such as suspension systems, brake-by-wire, steer-by-wire, etc., as well as cooperation experience with RIVIAN in skateboard chassis, and has the necessary elements to integrate skateboard chassis and steer-by-wire chassis. The new plant in Hangzhou Bay New Area will integrate the above modules on the same platform, and in the future, it will provide customers with the best performance, quality and cost of skateboard chassis products for peripheral and overseas customers.
