On the evening of February 8, when Wang Peixuan glided lightly across the finish line of the "Snow Dragon" of the National Bobsleigh Center, a bright smile filled her face. This is the first time that a Chinese team player has stepped onto the women's single sleigh field of the Winter Olympics and successfully completed the race. The 29th place result is not amazing, but it has left a mark on the chinese ice and snow sports in this event. "I believe that after 4 years, I will grow to a new height!" Wang Peixuan's tone was firm.

The Beijing Winter Olympics is about to enter the fifth competition day after the opening ceremony, and the athletes of the Chinese team are writing a new history every day. At the National Bobsleigh Center, Fan Duoyao and Wang Peixuan became the pioneers of the Chinese team in the men's and women's bobsleigh competitions of the Winter Olympics respectively. At the National Alpine Ski Center "Xue Feiyan", Xu Mingfu and Zhang Yangming became the first athletes of the Chinese team to participate in the men's downhill and super giant slalom events of the Winter Olympics. At the National Biathlon Center, the Chinese team, composed of Meng Fanqi, Chu Yuanmeng, Yan Xingyuan and Cheng Fangming, participated in the biathlon 4×6 km mixed relay for the first time and won the fifteenth place.

Among the 109 sub-events of the Beijing Winter Olympics, as many as 35 sub-events have appeared or will appear for the first time on the Winter Olympic field. Compared with the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, which participated in 5 major events, 12 sub-events and 53 sub-events, the Chinese team added three major events such as bobsleigh and ice hockey at the Beijing Winter Olympics. "A lot of sports that used to be out of reach, now we can stand tall on the Olympic field!" Ni Huizhong, director of the Winter Sports Management Center of the State General Administration of Sports, said.

China's ice and snow sports started late, and in order to achieve leapfrog development, training concepts and facility conditions need to be improved. Among them, cross-border cross-item selection has enriched the talent reserves of many projects. On February 6, Liu Rongsheng finished 38th in the men's doubles chase in cross-country skiing, setting the best result for a Chinese athlete in the Winter Olympics. Liu Rongsheng was originally engaged in middle-distance running projects, and his outstanding endurance made him stand out in cross-country skiing and long-distance projects. Ni Huizhong introduced that about 1/5 of the Chinese team athletes participating in this competition are engaged in ice and snow sports training through cross-border cross-sports selection.

A series of high-standard bases to meet the requirements of training and preparation have been built in Beijing Erqi Factory, Hebei Chengde, Hebei Laiyuan and other places, and training and scientific research sites such as ski jumping wind tunnel laboratories have been put into use, which has inserted high-flying wings for China's ice and snow sports. The Chinese alpine ski team achieved full-event participation in the Beijing Winter Olympics, of which 6 sub-events got the entrance ticket to the Winter Olympics for the first time, "In the Erqi base, the team members helped the 'wind tunnel', 'six degrees of freedom' simulation ski machine and other scientific and technological means, the details of gliding technology and special forces have been optimized." Team leader Liu Zhen introduced.

Chinese players have ushered in many "firsts" in the Winter Olympic Games, and the spirit of hard work is indispensable. The Chinese bobsleigh team members flipped over the sled again and again during training, and the captain Fan Duoyao knocked out his front teeth, but the scales all over his body did not make them flinch. The hard work of players and coaches, and the overall improvement of hardware and software have jointly contributed to the leapfrog development of ice and snow sports in China.
